After a performance that was both startling and beguiling, Adele's cousin Georgia Harrup has now made it through to the live round of shows on The Voice.

On Saturday night the 27-year-old transformed Bob Marley's reggae classic Three Little Birds into a gorgeous bright sparkly pop song proving that like her famous relative she truly knows her way around a song and, more importantly, can make it her own.

Georgia, who is part of Sir Tom Jones' team on the show, now goes through to the next round on The Voice which sees the BBC talent quest switch to live shows.

Georgia was thrilled when Sir Tom selected her to be on his team for the upcoming live shows on The Voice

'I'm in total awe of her, but I want to be known for me and my voice and my sound,' she explained. 'I'm ready to show the world what I am made of. Everyone sings in our family and my cousin Adele does inspire me. I would love to be as good as her

The former call centre worker only found out she was related to Adele five years ago when the wannabe's father contacted another branch of his family.

She told The Sun newspaper: ‘One day my dad rang his family and asked how everyone was doing and they said, ‘Adele is on tour, doing really well.’

Her father Albie - a guitarist who was in rock band Information and has released Christian albums as a solo performer - is the brother of Adele's grandmother.

She added: ‘He came off the phone and told me that the person whose album I loved was related to me.

‘I couldn’t believe it, as she was always a massive inspiration to me anyway.’

The Huddersfield based singer has met her famous relative only once, at a family gathering when they were children.

But despite her showbiz connection Georgia says she won’t be asking Adele for any assistance as she bids for fame on the BBC talent show.

She said: ‘I didn’t want to push my career in her face so she felt obliged to help me. If she made contact I think I’d sit there in a daze.

The singer, married and divorced before she was 21, lost half her body weight before appearing on The Voice.

In a series of before and after shots posted on Instagram, Georgia shows off the radical change to her body shape after shedding a reported eight stone.

The Voice continues on BBC One at 7:45pm on Sunday evening.

I don't know what it is about his girl but I just cannot take to her I thought she had an awful attitude on last weeks programme & please if you don't want to be known as Adele's cousin then stop mentioning it every time the camera is pointed at you.

Here come the negative comments. She's a bloody good singer, and as for the 'mentioning Adele', I'm pretty sure they're told what to say! And anyway, I'd be pretty proud to have Adele as my cousin! Leave the talented girl alone!
