Mourinho questions whether Foy should ever officiate Chelsea again after Willian and Ramires red cards during Villa defeat

Jose Mourinho has questioned whether Chris Foy should ever officiate a Chelsea match again after the referee sent off Willian and Ramires in their damaging loss to Aston Villa.

The Chelsea manager suggested there were ‘problems’ when Foy had previously taken charge of matches involving the club and that his players had been discussing the appointment in the build-up to the game at Villa Park. Such statements may bring action from the Football Association.

Mourinho, also sent off in the final seconds, compared the loss to Chelsea’s controversial defeat by the same score to Queens Park Rangers in October 2011, when Jose Bosingwa and Didier Drogba were dismissed by Foy.

The Portuguese also claimed he might make a donation to improve refereeing standards.

Fabian Delph scored the only goal eight minutes from time to deliver a substantial blow to Chelsea’s title ambitions with Manchester City having three games in hand.

Mourinho, who had not seen his team lose in the league since December 7, was incensed that Willian was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 68th minute for a tug on Delph.

Ramires was given a straight red for a two-footed lunge on Karim El Ahmadi in stoppage time and after advancing onto the pitch Mourinho was ordered from the touchline by Foy, who has issued six red cards to Chelsea players in his last eight matches involving the club.

GRAHAM POLL’S VERDICT

Chelsea have every right to feel aggrieved with Chris Foy’s refereeing. Ramires was in on goal when he was scythed down by Joe Bennett. The Villa player should have been dismissed.

Willian was harshly sent off for a second yellow card after a clash with Fabian Delph. It was a minor foul and a free-kick was the most that should have been awarded.

Ramires was correctly shown the straight red card by Foy for his shocking challenge on Karim El Ahmadi. The FA have the power to impose longer bans for serious ‘assaults’ and this falls into that category.

Chelsea now appear to want to ask that Foy is not appointed to any more of their games, which is understandable.

I would be surprised if Chelsea see him again this season.

‘I know,’ said Mourinho. ‘The players were speaking about it during the week. My philosophy is that I never care who the ref is, I don’t want to know. If for some reason I know the referee is Mr Anthony or Mr Jon, I always think that the referee is a good referee, I look always positive.

‘But during the week the players were speaking about the situation and I think from now on, the next time we have Mr Foy, I have to work my people in a different way because I don’t want this.

‘But do they have a reason? Maybe it is helpful that the committee doesn’t send him to our matches.

Chris Foy and Chelsea

Chris Foy has officiated eight Chelsea games in three seasons:

Mar 15, 2014: Aston Villa 1-0 Chelsea PL, four Villa bookings, one Chelsea + two red (Willian, Ramires)

Jan 26, 2014: Chelsea 1-0 Stoke FA Cup, three Stoke bookings, none Chelsea

Nov 23, 2013: West Ham 0-3 Chelsea PL, no bookings

Apr 14, 2013: Chelsea 1-2 Man City FA Cup, three City bookings, one Chelsea

Jan 23, 2013: Swansea 0-0 Chelsea Capital One Cup, one red (Eden Hazard)

Nov 25, 2012: Chelsea 0-0 Man City PL, three City bookings, none Chelsea

Oct 23, 2011: QPR 1-0 Chelsea PL, two QPR bookings, seven Chelsea + two red (Drogba, Boswinga)

Sep 21, 2011: Chelsea 0-0 Fulham (Chelsea win 4-3 on pens), one Fulham booking, one Chelsea + red (Alex)

‘I don’t have the right to request. It’s just I think they have to analyse the situation and see if every time he has Chelsea - or not every time - but many times he has Chelsea and problems are there, I think maybe it would be a good decision.’

He added: ‘I went to the pitch, as everybody went, with one single objective, me and Paul (Lambert) and my assistants and Paul’s assistants - that was to calm one situation in the last minute of the game.

‘I was angry but calm. Completely in control of my emotions, that’s why I can control myself and say I will refuse to comment.

‘I’m completely aware that if I comment, I will be accused of bringing the game into disrepute. Donations, I prefer to do anonymously and to people who really need the money.

'I don’t think it would be a problem to make a donation to help young referees to have better conditions to improve - a referees’ academy.’

Mourinho said that prior to the red card he felt his team would pick up at least a point.

EURO WATCH

A goalless draw against Kardemir on Friday meant Galatasaray, whom Chelsea face at home tomorrow with their last-16 Champions League tie at 1-1, slipped two points behind Fenerbahce in the Turkish title race. Galatasaray fans, desperate for tickets, have been warned fake ones are being sold for up to £500.

‘It was the kind of performance where you feel that you may win, you may not, but you never lose.’

Delph insisted both red cards were justified. He said: ‘If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it usually is. Let’s just leave it at that. (Willian) has grabbed me and I’ve gone down. I only weigh about 3st 2lbs so it was a bit difficult for me to stay up.’

‘I think Chelsea is normally a very composed team. The last time I remember something similar was in a match with QPR, at their stadium.’

It was pointed out Foy officiated that match too. ‘I didn’t know,’ Mourinho smiled. ‘It’s a coincidence.’

Jose should think of donating to the amateur comedy association, not the ref's! Funny how the Russians agreed with the sending off Kaboul last week because one of there lot was to feeble to stand up, this week same thing on a yellow card by Willian and they moan? Ramires tackle was a leg breaker, and José shouldn't be on the pitch like any other manager. José is slated by everyone in the press wherever he goes because of his disrespectful attitude, but the British press love him because he writes stories for them?

I remember when Chris Foy sent Arjen Robben off in 2006 for celebrating with fans. Maybe this mans heart was broken by a girl called Chelsea when he was a teenager, cos put Foy to officiate a Chelsea match and watch the red mist rise,

Fit is obviously biased against Chelsea and had a terrible game. If the FA fine Mourinho then they should also act against Foy to be fair. His actions distorted the result.

personally i think the refereeing nowaday is a bit of a sham, so inconsistent. But ramires foul was definitely a sending off, maybe willian's was a bit harsh but something needs to be looked at when it comes to refereeing.
