Road safety campaigners slam 'insulting' Rio for posting video of him bouncing behind the wheel to Craig David

Road safety campaigners have slammed Rio Ferdinand for a video which shows him bouncing along to music while behind the wheel of his car.

The 35-year-old Manchester United star filmed the video - seemingly shot on his mobile phone - as he travelled to training and it was later uploaded his Twitter account.

Ferdinand is shown listening to Craig David’s ‘Fill Me in’ and as the music blasts out he shouts: “Go on Craigy let’s have it. On the way to training.”

The video appeared next to his tweet: 'Sunshine on the way to training does perk me up £living the dream.'

But road safety charity Brake called his behaviour 'irresponsible' and 'insulting' to the many families left bereaved by distracted drivers.

Some Twitter users were also unimpressed by Ferdinand’s antics.

One wrote: 'Nice way for a role model to promote road safety.'

However, the video has since been retweeted more than 400 times.

He blatantly wasn't even driving at the time. There's no traffic sounds, no sounds from his own car... He's just embarrassing himself sat in a stationary car pretending that he's making a fun and cool (and controversial?) viral video. The guy is an absolute clown!

surely its illegal to be using your mobile whilst driving, someone should make a complaint to the police, and let them look at it.

I really don't like the guy and would love to see him in any trouble that goes his way to tarnish him. However, if you actually look at the video closely, there's absolutely no evidence that the vehicle is actually moving. Different story if he's swinging about roundabouts one handed on his mobile... but he's not. So really there's no case to answer for that. However, he should be dragged before the courts and given a heavy fine and community service for listening to Craig David... How embarrassing!
