While she put on a brave face in front the cameras on the night, Britney Spears is alleged to have suffered a 'panic attack' at an Oscars party.

The 'Perfume' singer, who had a public breakdown in 2007, reportedly felt overwhelmed at Sir Elton John's AIDS Foundation Oscar-viewing party at West Hollywood Park, and made a quick dash to the exit after just minutes of being in the room.

A source revealed: 'Britney was excited when she first went to the party but moments later she was fazed about being at such an over-crowded event. She started to break out in a sweat and become short of breath, it was like she was having a panic attack.'

The 32-year-old star shaved her head during a meltdown seven years ago and was photographed attacking a paparrazo's car with an umbrella.

Her breakdown led to her losing custody of her sons Sean Preston, eight, and Jayden James, seven, to ex-husband Kevin Federline, and the singer, who suffers from bipolar disorder, still has issues being at parties.

The source added to Closer magazine: "Britney still finds large crowds nerve-wracking and doesn't feel comfortable at showbiz events.

"The chaos of the red carpet and all the unfamiliar faces is very daunting. She manages to block out the crowd and put on an act when she's on stage, but it's harder when she's socialising.'

In front of the cameras it was a different story though as a redheaded Britney wowed in the barely-there sheer dress that showed off her feminine curves.

With the shimmering fabric hugging her figure, Britney left little to the imagination with her exposed midsection.

Her low neckline was most eye-catching, as it dared to defy the customary elegance expected at black-tie Academy Awards parties.

In the latest fashion, the pop princess' fingernails were left bare for the star-studded event.

Often photographed with chipped nail varnish, the Toxic crooner appeared to have happily adopted the nude look. And in contrast to her more candid public appearances, Britney - who typically appears dressed down and barefaced - sported smokey eyes and a thick application of mascara.

Britney swept her crimson-hued hair in loose waves, and initially appeared to be genuinely excited to be attending the event as she held hands with boyfriend David Lucado. The pop beauty has to resume her Piece Of Me show in Las Vegas on April 25.

It is different circumstances but since she has regularly performed in front of thousands it seems, somehow, odd that she should panic in a room full of people unless it is Anthropophobia or maybe Agoraphobia. It is sad but it seems she is still not well.

Leave Britney alone!! No seriously, do you have a problem with this woman, DM? Why publish such an unflattering picture when it's obvious that your photographers click away like mad and "oops" caught her while laughing and see the gum in her mouth. She's a smoker so ofc she'll be chewing gum to get through part of this event. I'm glad she was able to recognize the panic attack and leave. Good on her.

I remember seeing her on Alan Carr. Poor girl looked so unhappy. Her body language always makes me cringe and see has a smile that even makes a robot want to give up. Very sad, indeed.
