That's nothing to Crowe about: Russell shows off snowy, mottled beard and ginger hair he promotes Biblical epic Noah at Moscow photocall

He sports a thick, healthy beard and cropped auburn hair for his latest role – but while it was a significantly shorter and indeed snowier growth that covered Russell Crowe’s jutting chin as he promoted his new film in Moscow on Monday, it was the glaring red hair that caught the eye.

The straight-talking actor was making an appearance at the Russian capital’s Lotte Hotel to fulfil promotional commitments for Biblical epic Noah – in which he takes the titular lead.

Sporting a casual blue polo shirt and jeans, Crowe, 49, revealed a patchy beard, flecked with tell-tale white hairs as he took his place at the event, while his shirt hair appeared to have been dyed.

Speaking of his latest role, the actor recently claimed his depiction of Noah will go against the grain of common belief regarding his character.

‘The funny thing with people, they consider Noah to be a benevolent figure because he looked after the animals: 'Awww, Noah. Noah and the animals.' It's like, are you kidding me’ he told Entertainment Tonight. ‘This is the dude that stood by and watched the entire population of the planet perish.’

‘He's not benevolent. He's not even nice. At one point in the story his son says, 'I thought you were chosen because you were good?' And he goes, 'I was chosen because I can get the job done, mate.’’

But the Darren Aronofsky directed film, based around the fable of Noah’s Ark from The Book Of Genesis, has already come under fire from critics.

One such opposer, US TV host Bill Maher - an agnostic - has slammed the film, which sees Noah select two of every animal for his floating ark, for a perceived lack of ‘plausibility.’

'But the thing that’s really disturbing about Noah isn’t the silly, it’s that it’s immoral,’ he said. It’s about a psychotic mass murderer who gets away with it, and his name is God.'

'What kind of tyrant punishes everyone just to get back at the few he's mad at? I mean, besides Chris Christie.’

In a quip aimed at the film’s lead, he added: ‘Hey, God, you know you're kind of a d**k when you're in a movie with Russell Crowe and you're the one with anger issues.’

Noah is also understood to be banned in several countries for depicting religious characters, with censorship boards in Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates informing distributor Paramount that they won’t be releasing the film.

Addressing the various issues that have beset the film ahead of its release, Aronofsky told Variety: ‘There isn't really a controversy. The controversy is all about the unknown and about the fear of people trying to exploit a Bible story. It will all disappear as soon as people start seeing the film.’

The film also stars Jennifer Connolly as Noah’s wife Naameh, Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah, Douglas Booth as Noah’s son Shem and Emma Watson as Ila, Shem’s wife.

Noah goes on general release in the UK on April 4.

The media sure picks who they like and hate don't they? Why? Won't he sacrifice his children to their amorous advances like Billy Ray Cyrus or something?

Why is this movie terrible; have you seen it? No, of course not. I guess it's considered terrible, why, because it has a spiritual theme?
