He's been busy in Russia's capital promoting the release of Biblical epic Noah, but Russell Crowe found time to stop and admire the 'beautiful women' in Moscow.

The prolific Twitter user posted that there was no shortage of stunning women in the country's biggest city on Monday.

'There are a lot of beautiful women in Moscow. Am I the first to notice or does everybody say that?' he posted.

The actor plays the titular lead in Noah, with Moscow the first city for the film's promotional press tour at Lotte Hotel. The Biblical-inspired movie also stars Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson.

Russell also previously tweeted that he caught up with an old friend, semi-retired Russian-Australian professional boxer Kostya Tzu.

'In Moscow, had dinner with my old mate Kostya Tzu . So good to see him,' he posted.

Apart from checking out the local women and catching up with friends, while in Europe, the Australian actor was due to meet with Pope Francis in Rome on Wednesday, but the Pope cancelled it due to fears the meeting would be leaked to the press.

The 77-year old Pope was due to meet with Crowe and the entire creative team behind the biblical movie to give his blessing for the film.

Paramount vice chair Rob Moore, director Darren Aronofsky and Russell were all supposed to be in attendance - with film executives hoping it would provide the perfect photo opportunity prior to the film's US release at the end of March. It is due for Australian release on March 27.

Speaking of his latest role, Russell recently told Entertainment Tonight his depiction of Noah will go against the grain of common belief regarding his character.

He said: ‘The funny thing with people, they consider Noah to be a benevolent figure because he looked after the animals: "Awww, Noah. Noah and the animals."

'It's like, are you kidding me.This is the dude that stood by and watched the entire population of the planet perish.

‘He's not benevolent. He's not even nice.'

The film, based around the fable of Noah’s Ark from The Book Of Genesis, has already come under fire from critics.

One such opposer, US TV host Bill Maher - an agnostic - has slammed the film, which sees Noah select two of every animal for his floating ark, for a perceived lack of ‘plausibility.’

In October 2012, Russell reportedly split with his wife Danielle Spencer after nine years of marriage.

At the time, the news came as a shock in showbusiness circles as the couple were regarded as having a strong marriage, despite the demands of their respective careers.

Cracks began to show in the relationship when Danielle was spotted out drunk with her Dancing With The Stars partner Damian Whitewood - it was later dismissed by Russell who gave his wife a lingering kiss when he saw her next in public

Russell and the 43-year old singer have two young children together – 11-year old Charles and 7-year old Tennyson. The pair is yet to divorce and have never publicly confirmed the marriage breakdown despite appearing to live separate lives.

There have been reported rumours that the pair may have reunited and were spotted shopping with their sons in Beverly Hills, California in July last year.

The former couple met on the set of the movie The Crossing and were married in a chapel on Crowe's farm in the hamlet of Nana Glen, in northern NSW in 2003 and lived in a Rose Bay home before the split.

Before his relationship with Danielle, Russell had a much-publicised romance with Meg Ryan after the pair starred opposite one another in the Hollywood crime thriller, Proof of Life.

At the time 52-year old Meg was still married to American actor Dennis Quaid, but they divorced in 2001 after more than 20 years of marriage.

Since his marriage breakdown Russell has worked in films including The Man with the Iron Fists, Les Miserables, Broken City, Man of Steel, Noah and Winter's Tale.

While filming Les Miserables, Russell was romantically linked to British co-star Samantha Barks, who was 22 years old at the time.

careful russy, may be more woman than you're used to handling ... they've had to live under putin's regime so best have your wits about you and your eyes open when you sleep, and that's a compliment to the resilience of russian women. Git
