'Short hair, don't care': Jared Leto posts flashback picture prompting fans to wonder if he's about to chop his famous locks

Jared Leto got his fans in a tizzy on Monday after he posted an Instagram photo showing himself with his long ombre locks chopped off.

The 42-year-old actor and musician posted the black-and-white photo for his more than one million followers on Instagram with the caption, 'Short hair don't care'.

The photo showed the Oscar-winning actor giving a salute with shorty spiky hair.

The picture however appears to be from the Tommy Hilfiger and Interview magazine party held in September 2011 at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City.

Jared performed on Sunday night in Moscow with his band Thirty Seconds To Mars and his long rockstar hair was on full display during the concert.

The star also had his long hair down on March 2 when he accepted the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.

Fans of the blue-eyed star's long hair expressed their dismay at the short hair photo.

One follower on Instagram wrote, 'Whyyyyyy ! I love your long hairrrrrrrrr' and another added, 'it's truly a sin if he chopped the ombré!!!!!'

Jared and his band performed in Ukraine last week and dedicated their show to those involved in recent protests across the capital city Kiev.

‘You guys are in the midst of something really beautiful and it may be difficult, but there's no price too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself,’ Jared said during the show.

‘And I want to let you know, I understand other bands have cancelled their shows, but there was no f***ing way, no f***ing way, 30 Seconds to Mars wasn't going to be here in this beautiful city, in this great country here tonight,' he added.

The actor also gave a nod to Ukraine while giving his acceptance speech at the 86th annual Academy Awards.

‘To all the dreamers out there around the world watching this tonight in places like Ukraine and Venezuela,’ he began.

‘I want to say we are here, and as you struggle to make your dreams happen and live the impossible, we are thinking of you tonight.’
