Guilty Gear XX In L.A. Vocal Edition

An interesting piece of game music fusion, this one.

A short while ago, Japanese record label Team Entertainment solicited a curious-sounding new album -- "Guilty Gear XX In L.A. Vocal Edition." It was hard to know what to make of this, because while A.S.H., the band that performs the soundtrack to Arc System Works' fighters, has put on live performances before, they've never done so anywhere outside Japan, and certainly not in Los Angeles.

Now, Team Entertainment has released more details, and it sounds like a rather interesting piece of work for die-hard Guilty Gear fans. The album wasn't performed in Los Angeles, but it was put together in Los Angeles, by Jay Gordon, lead singer and producer of the metal band Orgy.

Gordon must be a fan of the series. He produced the album, and gathered three vocalists, including Matt Zane of Society One, to add vocals to a dozen remixed Guilty Gear tunes. The complete selection of tracks is as follows:

  • 1. Keep Yourself Alive II (Sol's Theme)
  • 2. Blue Water Blue Sky (May's Theme)
  • 3. Burly Heart (Potemkin's Theme)
  • 4. Writhe in Pain (Millia's Theme)
  • 5. Feel a Fear (Eddie's Theme)
  • 6. Existence (Mirror Match Theme)
  • 7. Momentary Life (Baiken's Theme)
  • 8. Liquor Bar and Drunkard (Johnny's Theme)
  • 9. Holy Orders Be Just Or Be Dead (Ky's Theme)
  • 10. Bloodstained Lineage (Testament's Theme)
  • 11. Shade Celebration (I-No's Theme)
  • 12. Nothing Out Of The Ordinary (Sol's Theme)

This definitely sounds like an interesting piece of work. You can check out some sound samples at the Team Entertainment page -- click the little speaker symbols next to some of the track listings to hear Guilty Gear gone nu-metal -- and if it sounds like something you'd buy, the full album hits Japan on May 19, under catalog number KDSD-00038, at a price of 3,150 yen (just under $30). Check out a favored importer to snag a copy.

What the hell happened!, I always dreamed of a vocal Guilty Gear soundtrack, but with the Metal God himself Rob Halford or Bruce Dickinson or any of the true metal bands from Europe. Not this Nu-metal crap. I thought Ishiwatari would go for some of those since the characters of the game really pay tribute to those great bands. Oh well I can always dream...
