When reports emerged that Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis were engaged, That ‘70s Show fans were delighted to see a happy ending for Jackie and Kelso.

However a source who knew the former co-stars at the time they were filming the sitcom has revealed their shock at the romance.

During the show’s run from 1998 until 2006, the two actors apparently were far from friendly.

‘Everyone shakes their head over the romance,’ an old friend of the couple told Radar Online.

‘Ashton and Mila were absolutely not friends during much of the making of That ’70s Show. In fact, they couldn’t stand working together.’

The insider added: ‘The two were never close on the set. Quite the opposite!’ but apparently after Ashton’s split from wife Demi Moore, ‘Mila was the one who came forward to bury the hatchet.

Fast forward: Nowadays the happy couple are believed to be engaged and rumours are swirling that Mila is pregnant

‘She could see Ashton was going through a tough time and reached out to him. They built a solid friendship, which was a new thing for both of them.’

Nowadays, Ashton, 36, and 30-year-old Mila are madly in love, and the Black Swan star has been spotted wearing a huge diamond on her ring finger, while rumours are swirling that she is pregnant.

The source said: ‘Everyone’s amazed at how different Ashton and Mila are together from when they were younger. It’s such a total change and now they’re a match made in heaven – something that no one could have ever predicted in their wildest dreams back then!’

Traditional: The 36-year-old apparently asked Mila's father Mark for her hand in marriage before proposing

It comes as it has been revealed that Ashton was very traditional in his proposal and asked Mila’s father Mark for her hand in marriage.

‘He talked with Mila's dad around Christmastime,’ a source told People. ‘He asked for Mark's blessing to marry her.

‘It was important to Ashton to be respectful and traditional. This is the real thing for him and he wants to do it all right.’

Date night: The couple, who started dating in April 2012, went out for dinner in Studio City last week

Meanwhile the insider added that they believe the pair will marry later this year.

‘They don't want to wait,’ the source said. ‘This relationship started on solid ground and everything is working out. They are in it for the long haul, truly.’

The happy couple, who have been dating since April 2012, are yet to confirm their engagement.
