Military patrol competitions are believed to be the forerunners of biathlon events
In 1999, the International Biathlon Union founded the so-called "Zero" Club, a symbolic sports club, which includes athletes who won a gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games or the World Championships in the individual race, sprint, pursuit, mass-start, with a zero (i.e., without a single miss) in the shooting result.
In the history of the Olympic Games biathlon events were postponed only twice, and both times were in Japan.
