Her defining career role is perhaps the 1988 classic Working Girl.

But actress Melanie Griffiths was more work-out girl when she was spotted in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The 56 year-old star cut a lithe figure as she wore her gym gear following a gruelling exercise regime in West Hollywood.

Wearing her blonde hair in a simple bun,the acclaimed star wore a black vest top with grey leggings and a pair of black military boots.

Keeping her cool in the California heat, she accessorised with a shawl cardigan, a leather handbag and a pair of reflective aviator sunglasses.

Together, the look accentuated her trim figure - something which she is clearly dedicated to maintaining.

The star also showed off her famous 'Antonio' tattoo - dedicated to her husband, Antonio Banderas - on her right arm

But it wasn't all hard work for the Hollywood wife of Antonio Banderas.

Following her exercise session she enjoyed a spot of retail therapy by shopping at Maxfield in West Hollywood's Melrose Avenue.

When asked if she's nervous about daughter Dakota Johnson's sex scenes in Fifty Shades of Grey film, Griffith told MailOnline: 'No, I'm not nervous about Dakota, she's fabulous!"'.

Earlier this week Melanie revealed her own fabulous beach body. She's been back and forth to Oahu since last month shooting three episodes of TV series Hawaii Five-0.

There, she proved her physical fitness and toned body while on a break from filming Sunday.

The evergreen Oscar nominee was clad only in a Tiki-patterned halter and bikini bottom, which had a matching skirt.

Melanie shaded her face with a black cap from The Kahala Resort where the 'Imperial Suite' costs upwards of $12,000 a night.

Griffith was forced to monitor her sun intake following surgery for skin cancer on her face back in 2009.

This woman has to be one of the worse so-called actresses in Hollywood. If not for her mother, Tippy Hendrin, who knows what she would be doing. What she had going for her was she is pretty and always had a great figure; that's it. Her voice is like chalk on a board. Now, she has the figure of an aging skinny woman. Sorry, can't stand her.
