'I've designed something for every occasion and everyone': Kate Hudson creates a line of little black dresses for Ann Taylor

By Misty White Sidell

Kate Hudson has continued her collaboration with Ann Taylor by designing a small range of little black dresses for the American brand.

The five designs, which will hit stores on April 10, are named for their ‘sartorial spirit’ including The Romantic and Camera Ready.

Each one is meant to appeal to a wide variety of women, providing ‘something for every occasion and everyone,’ Ms Hudson told WWD.

‘We designed them to fit how we all live,’ she added

The 34-year-old actress is has also modeled the collection. Promotional images for the line show Ms Hudson in a cut-out, one shoulder gown with a high slit.

She is also pictured in a sheer-panel lace cocktail dress, as well as another mini with a heart-shaped cut-out along the neckline.

Ms Hudson has modeled for Ann Taylor since 2012.

Their partnership marked Ms Hudson’s first fashion modeling job since her work for Tommy Hilfiger in the Nineties.

At the time of singing on with the brand she told ELLE.com: ‘I'm not working so I'm not super busy and I felt in terms of what Ann Taylor stands for—their campaigns are beautiful. It's just fun, it's one of those things when they ask and the time is right.’

I like Ann Taylor, but I wouldn't buy any of these designs. She's got a boxy shape and that's not my body type, thankfully.

She stated that the dresses were designed for how "we all live". Can she explain who "we" are? Maybe she's referring to her circle of friends, but she has to be careful in making such a broad statement because "we" all don't live like that.

I agree, that tagline is stupid..that and they are for everyone. They are body con for sure, it is clearly not for everyone. I know they are easily laundered and so forth..is that it?

Kate should stick to her D-lister movies.

A little background on Ms. Kate and this latest fashion initiative. She is working in collaboration with Anne Taylor. So no one had to "pick up" the line so to speak. Kate did have creative input into the actual designs and it stems from her past foray as a model for them. Apparently she wanted to represent clothes at a price point that is realistic for most women. She gave up a lucrative contract with LVMH to do this and another approachable price point line based in Europe. Kate made a comment some time ago that she can't even afford to dress like Kate Hudson, her red carpet looks are borrowed. I admire that candor. In response to the previous poster that so rudely pointed out that "she hasn't even been to college", I say so what? Apparently you have and it didn't teach you grace or manners. Even so..she won an Academy Award at 19, so I'm pretty sure her time was well spent. Her looks are lovely, she's never professed to be a knockout, why all the viscerally negative comments?

She would've never had the career she does without her parents. She grew up privileged. Comparatively it's been pretty smooth sailing for this one. Mediocre

She is mediocre in appearance but her mother was very successful in mid-60's and 70's. Otherwise she'd be a wife and mother in Timbuctoo right now.
