The moment that The Little Couple star Jen Arnold reveals to viewers that she is battling stage three cancer was shown for the first time tonight.

Neonatologist Jen, who along with husband Bill Klein has dwarfism caused by a genetic condition, got the verdict soon after they won their year-and-a-half battle to adopt their daughter Zoey from India.

She was forced to leave the country early during the process after she began to bleed profusely.

‘It’s not good,’ the 39-year-old said before heading back to the States, leaving Bill in New Delhi to battle the adoption process alone.

‘I ended up going through multiple tests to find out why I had been bleeding so badly in India, and as it turns out I have a form of cancer called gestational trophoblastic neoplasm - stage three,’ Jen told fans.

She said it meant she had a ‘rapidly growing’ tumor in her uterus which had metastasized into ‘three nodules’ in her lungs.

‘Thankfully nothing in my brain or liver,’ she said.

‘When you first hear it, and you first hear ‘cancer’ - my heart sank.

‘I felt nauseous,’ admitted Bill.

‘I didn’t have any control. There’s nothing you can do, and it scares the hell out of you.’

‘It’s not something we expected, nor foresaw but it’s something unfortunately we have to deal with,’ Jen added.

‘Clearly we don’t want my cancer diagnosis to overshadow in any way the adoption of our daughter.

‘That’s what’s getting me through this cancer diagnosis is getting Zoey home and acclimated and continuing to watch Will grow.’

‘It’s just another part of our lives,’ she said stoically. ‘So far we’ve been very open sharing all aspects in our lives, so I guess this isn’t any different.’

‘Seeing Zoey for the first time was incredible,’ said Jen later.

‘She’s [finally] home. She’s with us,’ she said as they took her home from the orphanage.

The dream trip had turned to nightmare when Jennifer began to experience the irregular bleeding.

‘It’s scaring the hell out of me,’ Bill said as she geared up to go home.

‘I felt lost. This trip home is probably one of the more difficult trips I’ll be dealing with,’ he said as he got the OK to take Zoey back to the States with the couple’s nanny Kate and he and Jennifer’s other adopted child, son Will.

‘Zoey doesn’t like me yet,’ he admitted as the tot screamed and screamed. ‘That makes me nervous.’

‘Not only is it difficult to travel with two kids, I’m not able to keep in touch with Jennifer.’

But the group managed to get back home to Houston, Texas on the plane without too much trouble and Bill carried a baffled looking Zoey into her new home.

Adorable photos of Zoey and her new brother flashed up on screen as Jen told of the difficulties the girl had faced transitioning to her new life in America.

‘We basically did everything we did with Will,’ she said, who was adopted from China in 2013.

They banned cameras and visits so the family could bond.

But plans for dedicated bonding time went out of the window with the cancer news.

‘I now had to go in for chemotherapy every week,’ she said.

Bill said it was tough for the kids but they had to understand she would go away and her ‘beautiful, flowing blonde’ hair Jen once had was no longer there.

‘I think I’m still in shock,’ Jen admitted, saying the timing was ‘insane’.

‘It felt like all the pieces [were] coming together,’ she said of the adoption.

She said the cancer was ‘really treatable’.

‘I just gotta get through it,’ she said as she got ready to go to the doctor again. ‘How did this happen?!’

Later viewers saw her trying on her beanie cap in the mirror as Bill suggested she put a flower on it to make it look prettier.

She said she had lost a lot of her hair after two months’ chemo - and said a scarf she had been wearing on her head made her look like a pirate.

‘Like a doo-rag? You looked like something from Sons of Anarchy?’ Bill - who offered to shave his head in solidarity - asked her.

‘She’s afraid of how ugly I will look without hair,’ he joked, saying she’d vetoed the idea.

‘I think I’m ready to try a wig out,’ Jen decided.

‘You don’t need hair in order to look pretty,’ Bill told her. ‘You’re perfect. I thought you looked cute. Now I can see your ears.’

She sought advice from professional Kitsa Strait of Artemis Hair Studio, who had several options for her.

Jen, whose dwarfism is caused by a rare form of skeletal dysplasia called spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia, pulled off her hat to reveal she was almost completely bald.

‘I have a little bit of fuzz,’ she said. Kitsa advised her to shave off the remaining hair before measuring her head to find the best fit.

Her head was ‘larger than normal’. ‘That’s good, more brains,’ Jen joked. ‘It really didn’t bother me to lose the hair.’

She then tried on several looks - a brunette and a redhead, which she said would please Bill.

‘I feel like I look like Jessica Simpson,’ she said as she tried a blonde wig on.

And she kidded that other options gave her ‘Texas hair’.

But she was most comfortable in a blonde bob that reminded her of her old self. ‘It looks good,’ Bill told her.

They are such a sweet, loving couple. I'm glad her cancer is in remission, and I hope she lives a long life to see her beautiful children grow up, and be a grandmother one day.
