The changing face of Jennifer Hawkins: How the former Miss Universe transformed from gangly legal secretary to perfectly polished star over the years

By Jade Watkins

She once was a gangly blonde legal secretary who went on to launch an international career after winning the Miss Universe pageant almost a decade ago.

And Jennifer Hawkins's appearance has certainly changed over the years.

It was more evident than ever on Thursday evening as the blonde beauty stepped on the red carpet at the annual Astra Awards in Sydney, showing off her perfectly polished Hollywood-style look.

With not a line in sight, the 30-year-old's complexion was flawless and her pearly whites were on display as she flashed her mega-watt smile.

The Myer ambassador also left little to the imagination in a very revealing Roberto Cavalli gown.

Inspired by film noir, the sheer, black dress hugged her curves and flashed some of her most famous assets to the star struck crowd.

‘I’m working the body,’ she told the MailOnline on the red carpet at Carriageworks in Sydney.

‘There’s no Hollywood tape, no nothing.’

The stunning blonde said she spent the afternoon getting ready with a team of hair and make-up professionals, with 'music blaring and a glass of red wine'.

She teased her fans earlier in the evening with a sultry Instagram shot taken from just her shoulders to above her knee, but it was enough to get an impression of the Cavalli masterpiece.

The Italian designer was influenced by Hollywood in the 1940s for his latest collection and Jennifer looked like she just stepped off the Great Gatsby set in this sexy gown.

Hawkins was nominated for Favourite Female TV Personality for her role on Australia's Next Top Model, but lost out to Shaynna Blaze from Selling Houses Australia.

She was also up against Naomi Sequeira, Brooke Corte, Laura Jayes, Nicole da Silva, Danielle Cormack and Lara Pitt in the category.

For most of her teenage years Jennifer attended West Wallsend High School in New South Wales before graduating with top marks.

She went on to continue her studies and gain a legal secretarial at a law firm at the age of 17.

The bubbly blonde then went on to cheerleader for the Newcastle Knights Rugby League team, and even became the NRL's cheergirl of the year.

Her big break came in 2004 when she entered the Miss Universe contest held in Quito, Ecuador, in June 2004.

At the age of 20, she took out her 86 fellow contestants to take the title.

These days Jennifer has carved out an extremely successful career for herself.

The savvy businesswoman also has her own swimwear and shoe labels as well as a range of self-tanning products.

Hey, here is the truth: Every woman can be attractive. Some woman more than others, this is true, but every single one of us can be very, very beautiful. We just need some free time, a little dedication and some money. Jennifer Hawkins did very well, she is not only beautiful, she is very hot. Good for her. I bet her self esteem is pretty high now, which is one of the best things that can happen to any of us.
