It has been a painful split after 11 blissful years of marriage.

The 45-year-old told Ladies Home Journal: 'He'll always be my loved one. Even before our wedding, we agreed not to tell people about our relationship, but to show them instead.

'What we're showing them now is we're human, we're family, and this is what family looks like.'

Despite their split, Ashley rushed to the Scotsman's side after he broke his right ankle and fractured two vertebrae while competing in the Grand Prix of Houston at the start of October, injuries which ultimately ended his career.

At the time she said they were 'amazed by the incredible outpouring of care and prayers' from their fans.

Family has been a tricky subject for Ashley, who has admitted she found it overwhelming to be part of a country music dynasty that includes The Judds star mother Naomi and sister Wynonna.

When asked what she would tell her younger self now, she replied: 'I'd hold her! Adolescence was exceedingly difficult for me...Only when I got into therapy and started to understand what neglect looked like was I able to ask, "Where were the teachers? Where was everybody?'"

However the middle-aged star is positive about her future, saying she wants to be a 'joyful' old woman, as well as 'a feminist committed to social justice'

She added: 'A homebody. A Kentucky basketball fan. But mostly, a woman who has her priorities in order.'

She also talked about her new movie Divergent, which is set in a dystopian future and also stars Kate Winslet.

The actress said: 'I play a woman who doesn't fit with the group she was born into.

'The film is really about the greatest fundamental human longing, which is to belong.

'But it's also about that opposing desire to be an individual. That's a profound tension I can certainly relate to.'

The film hits cinemas on Friday.

What a despicable person she is. She treats people like trash. I'm surprised her marriage lasted as long as it did. Her mother and sister can't even stand her!

She is known to be very difficult to be around. It's not enough that she is vegan, and that she is thin - you MUST be, too. Rumors swirled that it was a part of the reason, and HE left HER.

All the Judds are people who talk a lot but say very little.

Yes. My husband and I walked out of a Judds concert due to their inane chatter between songs. Too much of nothing.

She's disgusting. In the photo above in which she's posing with her 3 dogs and the race car, she is grinding the car's mirror - look at the fabric of her dress. Talk about "feelings running deep"!

Spare me. If you still love him then why are you not together? You vowed to stay together and if two people love each other then they CAN make a marriage last. Love is the glue. If you love one another then there shouldn't be anything you can't work out. What an insult to marriage.
