It took Lisa Marie Presley eight years to return to Australia after her last visit - and now we know why.

Presley, who is currently touring her new album Storm And Grace around the country, has revealed she had a monumental drinking session with Australian actor Russell Crowe right before she was due to perform on stage.

'It took me eight years to recover,' the 46-year-old told David Campbell in an interview on Channel Nine's Mornings this week.

It sounds like the singer had a case of drinker's regret after the bender, telling the Herald Sun it was the 'stupidest thing I have ever done'.

But it's unlikely Elvis's daughter will be regaining some family pride by challenging Russell to Round 2 - as the actor is on a world tour promoting his latest film.

What's more, he was spotted in Rio at the weekend riding around on a mountain bike - the thought of downing alcohol apparently being the furthest from his mind.

And earlier in the week the 49-year-old was seen dining out in Rome with stunning Italian actress  Daniela Virgilio, as well as Paramount executive Rob Moore, at Antica Pesa restaurant.

Crowe tweeted a selfie of the three of them at the eatery, where they reported stayed ‘until the wee hours eating pasta and Russell was snapping pictures.’

Russell has been single since he and his wife Danielle Spencer separated in 2012, after nine years of marriage.

The couple have two sons together, Charles, 12, and seven-year old Tennyson who reside in Australia, where he lives but the actor may want to set up roots in Italy.

A source told Page Six: ‘Russell feels at home in Rome… ever since Gladiator, he’s been so popular here.’

Crowe was denied an audience with the Pope not once, but twice during his visit to Rome, but Russell Crowe got to at least enjoy some angelic company with a beautiful Italian actress.
