Taylor in top gear as Leeds set darts record with 11,000 attendance at First Direct Arena
Darts history was made in Leeds on Thursday as a record 11,000 spectators filled the First Direct Arena for week seven of the Premier League.
The attendance beat the previous highest of 10,000, which was set at the 2012 Premier League Play-Offs at London's O2 Arena, and the crowd were treated to a masterclass from Phil Taylor.
The 16-time world champion continued his recovery from a poor start as he brushed aside Wes Newton 7-1.
Taylor, who lost his first three games of the tournament, averaged 106.91 against Newton on his way to a thumping win that moved him out of the relegation zone for the first time.

'The Power' won the opening two legs before Newton checked out a 108 in leg three.
That proved to be the only leg Newton would win, though, as Taylor reeled off the next five to seal a clinical win.
He told pdc.tv: 'It's coming back and I'll hopefully get better each week. I've been chopping and changing my darts and my sponsors have backed me with all the little changes I've made.
'I never doubted myself but I keep trying to improve myself and it's getting there. I'm not nervous any more whereas I was earlier in the season, because I wasn't quite comfortable.
From afar: The previous highest attendance for a darts event was 10,000 in London in 2012
On a roll: Taylor moved out of the relegation places for the first time in the tournament
WEEK SEVEN RESULTS
Dave Chisnall 6-6 Simon Whitlock
Robert Thornton 6-6 Adrian Lewis
Gary Anderson 5-7 Michael van Gerwen
Wes Newton 1-7 Phil Taylor
Peter Wright 6-6 Raymond van Barneveld
'Getting the two points was the most important thing tonight and I don't want to get knocked out in the relegation in a couple of weeks - I want to move on up the table now and try and get this title back.'
Reigning champion Michael van Gerwen was also a winner in Leeds and he moved to the top of the table with a 7-5 win over Gary Anderson.
The Dutchman secured his fifth win of the campaign to leapfrog Peter Wright into to spot on leg difference.
Van Gerwen said: 'I'm very pleased with this win and I did the right things at the right time at the end of the game.

Strong: Peter Wright drew with Raymond van Barneveld to maintain his unbeaten start
'We've had some great games and I showed tonight that I was the best, and now I'm top of the league and very happy with that.
'I want to stay there and I will work very hard to stay there, but my aim is to win the tournament and there's a long way to go. This result will give me a lot of confidence because I had to work hard to win the game tonight.
'It was an amazing night. It's the first time we've played here and it was packed, and I think every one of the crowd enjoyed the night.'
Wright, meanwhile, continued his unbeaten start to the tournament, but he was held to a 6-6 draw by third-placed Raymond van Barneveld.
'Snakebite' said; 'I scraped a draw and I'm happy with that. I really enjoyed the match, but with the way Raymond was taking out the big finishes I didn't think I was going to win but I wanted to jump on him when I got a chance and I never gave up.'
After his third successive draw, Van Barneveld said: 'It's a good point for me but it was a fantastic finish from Peter in the last leg.
'Peter's done really well so far this season and he's an awesome player who is very dangerous and he deserves this success.
All tied up: Robert Thornton and Adrian Lewis drew 6-6 at the First Direct Arena
'I think a draw was fair tonight and it's another point for me. I'm happy to be on nine points after seven weeks because two top class darts players have to get relegated, and I want to make sure I make the Play-Offs now.'
The other two games at the First Direct Arena also ended in draws.
Dave Chisnall and Simon Whitlock were first on stage to share a point apiece, and they were followed by Robert Thornton and Adrian Lewis, who also drew 6-6.
Week eight of the Premier League takes place next Thursday in Dublin.
