So strong was the force of the slide, it carried a house with people still inside across a road in rural Snohomish County. Heavy rain in the area, about 55 miles north of Seattle, likely contributed to the mudslide, despite Saturday's weather being sunny and clear. Mud, trees and building materials were still blocking State Route 530 near the town of Oso in both directions as of late Saturday afternoon.
