'There's a line between being a little cheap versus being sexy': Kate Upton opens up about her rise to fame in new issue of Vogue

By Margot Peppers

Kate Upton is not only one of today's most famous supermodels, but she's also widely considered a veritable sex symbol, a role she has strong views about.

In the April issue of Vogue, the 21-year-old - who launched into fame thanks to her buxom 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover - explains that while she 'likes being sexy', she won't accept just any job.

'I definitely have limits,' she says, adding: 'There's a line between becoming, you know, a little cheap and cheesy versus being sexy. And I try to be very careful of that line.'

In the magazine, the stunning blonde puts her famous curves on show in a tight royal blue silk dress, her hair styled in a sleek side part.

Another image sees her leaning against a white wall in a form-fitting red gown that flatters her hourglass shape and accentuates her cleavage.

Miss Upton's meteoric rise to fame in the fashion world was something she never anticipated, having grown up in Florida 'where you walk around in flip-flops and jean shorts'.

'I had no clue,' she admits. 'I wasn’t the target audience... I didn't know the fashion world. [Modelling] really happened in an organic way, wanting to do jobs that I loved.'

These days, however, Miss Upton is at the very forefront of the fashion industry, with 1.26million Twitter followers.

And just today, Bobbi Brown announced her as the new face of its cosmetics line, replacing Katie Holmes in the role.

'Kate came to the shoot without a stitch of makeup,' Ms Brown, who chose Miss Upton for the campaign herself, explained.

'She is the girl next door, really fresh and the epitome of all-American,' she added.

Miss Upton says she has her upbringing to thank for her warm and down-to-earth demeanor.

And thankfully her parents are fully supportive of her career - even the sex symbol aspect of it.

'I always talk about things with them before I take a job,' she explains.

'I will say, "I really want to do this."

'And they understand. It's just part of my personality'.

"There's a line between being a little cheap and being sexy." And Vogue, with that Kardashian Kover, did to that line what the Panzers did to the Maginot Line in 1940.

As much as I feel like this girl is highly over-rated, I'd much rather see her on the cover of Vogue than the waste-of-life Kim Kardashian.

The photos have been so drastically altered. She has a wide shapeless middle, and in these photos, she has a waist and curvy hips. She has such an odd midsection it's almost as if she is shaped like a barrel--but here, she has been photoshopped to death. I can no longer admire fashion and magazines because it's practically like a comic book filled with animation now. Fail.

It could also be Spanx -- besides, you're really sad and pathetic if *this* is the breaking point for you in fashion: Kate Upton's midsection or lackthereof. I'll bet she looks infinitely better than you on her worst day.

If women were required to post their own pictures next to their catty comments about other women, the number of posts in threads like this would be cut by 90 percent:)

If you want to see what straight men like, look at Kate Upton. If you want to see "beauty" as defined by middle-aged women and men who are not attracted to women, look at most other models.

What about dancing around in a bikini (and a way too small bikini at that) for that sleazebag photographer Terry Richardson. I'd say that qualifies as extremely cheap and cheesy.

She seems sweet and very personable.. I like her. She is not high fashion model material.. she is too pretty (odd as it sounds) she doesn't have that austere/androgyny thing that high fashion models do. Even so she will probably make scads of money later in her career with her own lines of clothes/perfume, etc..I think she'll be around for a while.

Since you're not sexy I'm guessing you're on the cheap side from your words.
