Power Rankings: Does Gerrard keep top spot? Or is Hazard or Sturridge the Premier League's most in-form player?

By Dan Willis

Steven Gerrard topped our Power Rankings last week after a terrific spell of form over the past six rounds of Premier League matches.

But can the Liverpool captain - who bagged two goals in the Merseysiders' comfortable win over Manchester United - keep top spot with the likes of Chelsea's Eden Hazard and his own team-mate Daniel Sturridge breathing down his neck?

So, with the help of football data analysts Kickdex, let's see which players have contributed the most to their team over the past six games - either by helping them score or by stopping their opponents from scoring.

Every action on the pitch is taken into account, from the easiest pass to the unluckiest deflection.

We'll reveal the top 10 combined table each Monday after a weekend of Premier League fixtures, as well as a top five breakdown of the four main positions.

Heads up: Leandro Bacuna (left) and Youssouf Mulumbu jump into this week's top 10 Power Rankings

10. Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal) +3

The Arsenal stopper makes his way into the top 10 with a nice mixture of clean sheets and a goal in the win over Sunderland.

9. Leandro Bacuna (Aston Villa) +2

Aston Villa might have had a mixed time over the past six rounds of Premier League games, but Bacuna has been on-form individually with a couple of goals and some key passing.

8. Youssouf Mulumbu (West Brom) +4

Few players make as many tackles and break up the play as much as West Brom's Youssouf Mulumbu. And with a goal thrown in for good measure, the Congolese makes his way into the top 10 form players.

7. David Silva (Manchester City) +2

The Man City playmaker climbs one place in our Power Rankings after a match-winning performance in the win over Hull. The Spaniard topped up his six-game score with a goal and an assist to revive 10-man City's title hopes.

6. Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) +4

Nemanja Matic is looking like an inspired January signing from Jose Mourinho. And even though Chelsea lost at Aston Villa on the weekend, the Serb's performance in that game, coupled with the many others over this time see him jump up the table.

5. Morgan Schniederlin (Southampton) +14

Out of nowhere comes Southampton midfield enforcer Morgan Schniederlin whose 14-place jump rockets him into the top five in-form players in the Premier League. It just goes to show how important breaking up opposition play is. Add a goal into the mix, as the Frenchman did in the 4-2 win over Norwich on the weekend, and the picture gets even brighter.

4. Mikel Arteta (Arsenal) +1

And to think some Arsenal fans want to replace the Spaniard with a younger model. Arteta's all-round game is flourishing at the moment and the midfielder again played a key role in the Gunners' hard-fought win at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Valuable: Both Arsenal's Mikel Arteta (left) and Liverpool's Luis Suarez are enjoying some great form

3. Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool) -1

Despite not scoring in the past two matches - unusual for a striker enjoying such prolific form this season - Sturridge keeps his place in the top three. An assist in the win over Man Utd, plus goals earlier in the six-game period maintain a high Kickdex value.

Keep ball: Aston Villa's Karim El Ahmadi is unable to get the ball off Chelsea's tricky attacker Eden Hazard

2. Eden Hazard (Chelsea) +1

The Chelsea midfielder continues to bewitch opposition defences. And although the Blues stumbled at Villa over the weekend, his overall recent performances see him climb above Sturridge.

1. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) 0

And here he is. The Liverpool captain has bagged four goals over this period and his performance in the Old Trafford win over the weekend was the epitome of helping his team score, while preventing the opposition from doing so.

All these people (or should I say United/Everton bitters) saying "All Gerrard has done is scored penalties", I have 3 reasons you might have come to that conclusion. 1. You haven't watched the game. 2. You have watched Match of the Day and actually believe that football matches are 10min long and thought that was the whole match. 3. You know sweet fa about football.

Benteke and Delph should be in there along with Bacuna. Fair play to Lambert he is building a very fine young squad at The Villa. They'll be up the top end of the table next season.

Football is about skill and technique first, a specific innate ability that sets you apart from your peers. Silva when he is on the field, you can see the disparity in terms of skill with him and not just the opposition but his teammates. There is nothing that sets Gerrard apart from his teammates, he was never the best passer at no time in his career, never the best dribbler, tackler, etc and this is the real reason why the English football team will never progress in world football. Yet England will of course lug this long hoof ball idiot along because he has 'heart, passion, fight, pride' etc all of which has nothing to do with football. English football will never progress if you the fan don't protest and ask for skillful players. Because something make you feel warm and tingly inside like the belief that Gerrard is better than Silva, doesn't make it true in any sense.

"Silva when he is on the field, you can see the disparity in terms of skill with him and not just the opposition but his teammates." Agreed - Silva always just looks completely lost out there, as if he doesn't belong in this league! ^_^

Chelsea fan here but Steven Gerrard is an absolute phenomenal player. The reason why he does not score much from pen play is because his is playing as an anchor and penalties are still hard for English players so still give him credi for that. Gerrard is deffo a top top top player. Absolute legend!

Lol people on here saying Gerrard only scores penalties are either fans who don't like Liverpool, or who don't watch football. He's only just adopted this position, not his original position and you only have to watch a match and see how he sits in the middle of the park bossing the game, getting in tackles, through balls, his vision to spread the ball around the park and then of course his set pieces. You are probably the same fans (if your not haters) who don't recognise players like xavi and Pirlo as world class players but rather just get amused by the flashier players. If your a real footy fan you would recognise how important every position is and how well a player can play it like the ones mentioned rather then seeing some skills, couple step overs and sitting there clapping your hands.

When you think of a footballer the first thing comes to mind is skill, technique, ball control, dribbling ability Gerrard isn't known for none of this. He is only famous for club loyalty that's it. You can put Gerrard in the same sentence with Xavi and Pirlo, Xavi is an actual footballer, no hollywood passing with eagle eye vision, close control with the ability to keep the ball in tight spaces and pin point passing. We've seen Gerrard up against Pirlo and the difference was there for all of us to see. Gerrard is the most overrated footballer ever Rooney second.
