  • Summary: Drakengard 2 is a role-playing action game featuring knights and dragons that builds on the scenario of the original title. Drakengard 2 takes place 18 years after those events. The player assumes the role of Nowe, a warrior who fights as a member of a legion that guards the red dragon in order to make sure that the world stays at peace. Despite his youth, Nowe is considered to be special among the legion because of his ability to ride on a blue dragon, and he's therefore referred to as "the savior." Expand

  1. It's more of the same plus one - you've just got to stick with it for a while until the action really picks up.

The first Drakengard recieved a cult following more on story than anything else and the tradition continues with D2. Featuring some very dark and mature themes that are even a bit disturbing at times.
  3. While the second installment in this relatively new franchise does slightly improve upon its predecessor, it's still noticeably rough around the edges.
  4. In it mindless way, it's not not fun, plus it all looks great, has a reasonably compelling storyline and characters, and lasts a pretty good while. It's just, well, mindless. [Apr 2006, p.72]
  5. "Drakengard" wasn't doing anything new two years ago and its sequel does nothing new either. This really is a case of flogging a dead dragon. [Apr 2006, p.58]
  6. An ugly, ugly game. [Apr 2006, p.80]
  7. I see no reason to purchase and play a mediocre amalgamation with no exceptional qualities to recommend it, though I guess I shouldn't be surprised because nearly every game employing dragons as anything but enemies ends up stinking.

Incredible. The combat is brilliant, the levelling up fun, and the only problem is some occasionally frustrating arial ( sp?) battles. One for RPG lovers, but if its your thing, you wont be dissapointed. Expand

Once again, it looks like fans of the series are blinded by their feelings for it. I myself loved the first one and thought the second addition was very enjoyable. However, it's far from the perfect 10 many of my fellow reviewers have given it. Like the first one, Drakengard suffers from terribly repetitive gameplay and sloppy game mechanics. Unlike the first one, it doesn't offer the same out of your mind story elements that made the first one so unusally enjoyable. Overall, this game is a re-hash of the first one with too few improvements and one very noticeable downgrade. Expand

An ok game. Much like the first with a few improvements. However, the music is not quite as good as in the first. I preferred the whole chaotic style of the originals. Still a good game though. Expand

I really enjoyed the first drakengard because the time it came out the graphics were awesome and the coolness of being able to ride a dragon made it all worth while. This one however seems to have no difference from the original at all, except a new storyline, new characters, and thats about it. The gameplay is exactly the same, the graphics are almost equal to the one that was released years ago. Sure its still fun to ride on a dragon burning things up and then jumping off and hacking and slashing the crap out of enemies, but it gets real repetive real fast. The only reason this game got a 4 is because of the price ($20) and the fact that for the first hour or so it is very fun hack and slash game, but it lacks quality, it had so much potential to build off of the first one but dropped well short of the mark. Disappointed! Expand
