How did we get to the running order?

The producers did not decide the full running order but the participating countries were first drawn to the two Semi-Finals and to the first or second half of the shows. That was done on the 20th of January at the Semi-Final Allocation Draw.

To assure a fair distribution and sufficient availability of tickets over neighbouring countries, the Reference Group also decided that Sweden and Norway would perform in different Semi-Finals at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. A draw held at the EBU headquarters determined that Sweden would participate in the first Semi-Final, and Norway would be represented in the second Semi-Final.

Israel will take part in the second Semi-Final due to the first Semi-Final falling on their Independence day.

In addition to that, the host country, Denmark was drawn their exact performing position at the Grand Final - 23rd - at the Head of Delegation meeting a week ago to ensure fairness.

It was also drawn which Semi-Final the already qualified countries, the so-called Big 5 - Germany, Spain, France, the UK, Italy - and the Host Country of Denmark will broadcast and vote in.

  • Denmark
  • France
  • Spain

I have to agree with Martin, what's the deal with Armenia?
The song is just to intense and repetitive and it goes nowhere. And that dub step part doesn't fit the song at all. I think the juries won't appreciate it as much and that might hurt it. I think they will prevent it from being a top contender
As much as Yerevan sounds exciting, I would rather wait for a better song from Armenia to win.

As for the starting order, it seems O.K Tough people are quick to assume things about the running order
Just because an entry starts early doesn't mean it won't qualify, and just because an entry starts among the last doesn't mean it will automatically qualify.
As always it all depends on the song and the performance. If you have a good song and strong performance that is enough to take you all the way. No matter the starting position. Take Denmark as an example. Last year they started as number 5. Yet they managed not only to qualify but to win as well. report to the moderator

Semi- final 1 - With 10 ballads Semi 1 has a very strong first half, but Belgium, San Marino, Montenegro and Hungary have been given every chance to qualify. Azerbaijan and Russia have been given the best possible slots that they could be given having been drawn in the first half. The so called favourites should qualify regardless though.

Semi- final 2 - Israel has been given a really bad slot. Ireland, F.Y.R. Macedonia, Greece and Romania have been give the prime opportunities to qualify. Austria and Lithuania get the best possible slots they could be given having been drawn in the first half. Again I should think the so called favourites should qualify regardless though. report to the moderator

What is the excitement about with Armenia? As much as I would like to go to Yerevan, it can't be a for a song as repetitive, boring and depressing as their entry this year - it's truly tedious.

While I would have loved to have seen Conchi take the last performance slot in Semi-Final two, I am relieved to see Germany, The United Kingdom and Italy voting in the second semi, since I am confident that all three countries will give solid votes to Austria. report to the moderator

Well, I guess it's an ok running order, the different songs comes and goes after each other with an ok mix. Interesting that they start with Armenia in the 1st semi, I guess it starts off with setting the standard of this years Eurovision! Sweden is 4th but has two uptempo around it, so I guess it's going to do ok. And Romania is lucky to get the final spot in a semi the second time in a row! But in the end it's mainly the quality of the song that decides the outcome. Serbia was the last performer in their semi last year, did not go through and Ireland performed last in the final last year and yes it ended in the last position. Also, chances to progress to the final this year are higher due to the simple fact of fewer participants, just to say again, I would not read to much into the running order, it's the quality of the song that matters the most! Good luck everyone! report to the moderator
