She seemed thrilled to engulf herself in the sparkling waters of Miami Beach.

But emerging from the ocean was another story altogether for Anne Hathaway, who enlisted the help of her husband Adam Shulman as well as a gaggle of beach employees to create a human shield for her to hide her entire body behind on her way out.

The 31-year-old actress remained covered behind a fortress of blue and white striped towels during the painfully awkward walk across the sand, apparently not quite ready to put herself on show.

Dressed in a cute purple swimsuit and mini pink board shorts, the Devil Wears Prada actress had soaking wet hair on account of the dip she had just taken.

Her eyes were shielded by dark sunglasses, but apparently that was insufficient.

At first, Anne appeared content to hide behind an outstretched towel held by her doting jewellery designer husband Adam, who dutifully shuffled beside the wet actress as she made her way along the sand.

Earlier: Prior to taking a dip in the water, Anne and Adam were dry and enjoying each other's company at the popular swimming spot

But it wasn't long before the modest star had recruited upwards of five burly men to create a makeshift mobile tent to protect both she and her beau from the eyes and cameras of onlookers.

Creating more of a scene than she otherwise would have if she simply threw a towel around herself, Anne was seen making her way across the sandy shore inside the awkward towel arrangement with only her legs and the top of her head poking out the edges.

The star was in Miami to help promote her latest movie Rio 2, and ditched the beach gear earlier in the day to slip into a little black dress for a photo call.

The Oscar-winner appears to be making the most of her free time after completing two films back to back.

Anne once again voices the role of Jewel in the animated sequel to Rio, which opens in US theatres on April 11.

She'll also get to flex her dramatic skills in the sci-fi flick Interstellar opposite Matthew McConaughey, which follows a group of explorers who push the limits of space travel and conquer vast distances during an interstellar journey.

Directed by The Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan, it's due for release on November 7.

Note to self: if you don't want to make a scene, don't do something that will undoubtedly cause a scene. Lets say, instead, behave normally, and try to blend. Appears as tho she could use a few more acting lessons!
