Still sharp at 45! Hugh Jackman returns for third Wolverine film set to hit cinemas in 2017

He's 45-years-old, but Hugh Jackman is proving himself a real-life superhero as he gets set to return as an adamantium claw-wielding mutant in a third Wolverine film.

A sequel to The Wolverine - itself a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine - has been greenlit by Fox Studios with Jackman locked in to reprise his most iconic role.

The Australian actor was a relative unknown when he first played the Canadian superhero in X-Men back in 2000, with his performance catapulting him to stardom.

His contract with Fox officially ended after he finished filming X-Men: Days Of Future Past last year and there were questions over whether he would return to the blockbuster franchise despite being offered a rumoured $100m for a multi-picture deal.

Jackman previously told Entertainment Weekly that he was getting 'too old' to maintain the hardcore workout regime required to portray Wolverine's muscular physique.

Those concerns seem to have been put on the back burner, with the as yet untitled third solo film set for a March 3, 2017 release date.

The popularity of the character saw Jackman star in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, which was slammed by critics and fans alike.

Determined to make the perfect stand-alone film starring the character, he returned last year with The Wolverine which was set in Japan.

Directed by James Mangold, the film was a critical and commercial success earning $414m at the international box-office.

Mangold and Jackman first worked together on 2001 romantic comedy Kate And Leopold before the filmmaker went on to direct Walk The Line and 3:10 To Yuma.

He's also returning for the third Wolverine film, which is being written by David James Kelly who is also penning a Daredevil reboot for Fox.

Man has the role down to a T. OK, Origins Wolverine stunk a fair bit, but overall Jackman has made Wolverine his own, and people will want to see him in action, like they did with Clint Eastwood or Arnie back in the days. A sequel to The Wolverine? Thumbs up.

Just make a two hour movie of him shirtless, that'll guarantee a success.

He's pretty on the outside and the inside - that's what makes him truly appealing.

Why?! The last one was awful, if Hollyweird want to get people back into the cinema, best they start thinking up some new ideas. If they can't think of anything, there's plenty of books out there that would make a good film...

But lots of people did go and see the last one. And you've just contradicted yourself: "Stop adapting things and come up with something new or adapt something!"

Love Hugh Jackman and the whole genre, but I don`t think they should milk it for a third film. The plot was pretty weak in the last one.
