The Globe and Mail, Aug 13, 2013 (Emphasis Added): Independent fisheries scientist Alexandra Morton is raising concerns about a disease she says is spreading through Pacific herring causing fish to hemorrhage. [...] “Two days ago I did a beach seine on Malcolm Island [near Port McNeill on northern Vancouver Island] and I got approximately 100 of these little herring and they were not only bleeding from their fins, but their bellies, their chins, their eyeballs. [...] “It was 100 per cent … I couldn’t find any that weren’t bleeding to some degree. And they were schooling with young sockeye [salmon]”

SOURCE: Alexandra Morton via Vancouver 24 hrs
Sun News, Aug 12, 2013: [Morton] dragged up several hundred of the fish this past weekend and found the apparent infection had spread – instead of their usual silver colour the fish had eyes, tails, underbellies, gills and faces plastered with the sickly red colour. “I have never seen fish that looked this bad,” [...] In June, the affected fish were only found in eastern Johnstone Strait, but have since spread to Alert Bay and Sointula, she said.
Canada.com, Aug 16, 2013: Morton [...] pulled up a net of about 100 herring near Sointula and found they were all bleeding. “It was pretty shocking to see,” said Morton [...] Herring school with small sockeye salmon and are also eaten by chinook and coho.

‘Response’ from Canadian Government
Vancouver 24 hrs, Aug 11, 2013: [Morton] says Fisheries and Oceans Canada [FOC] is ignoring the problem. [...] According to emails from FOC, the federal authority had asked the marine biologist to send in 20 to 30 herring in September 2011, saying that would be “more than sufficient for the lab to look for clinical signs of disease and provide sufficient diagnostics.” She did, and hasn’t heard back since. [...] FOC officials did not respond to a request for comment by the 24 hours presstime.
Canada.com, Aug 16, 2013: Fisheries and Oceans Canada is trying to confirm reports from an independent biologist that herring around northern Vancouver Island have a disease that is causing bleeding from their gills, bellies and eyeballs. [...] Arlene Tompkins of DFO’s [Department of Fisheries and Oceans'] salmon assessment section said staff in the Port Hardy area have not found bleeding herring. “We are trying to retrieve samples, but [Monday] we were not successful because of heavy fog,” she said. “We haven’t had any other reports of fish kills or die-offs [see salmon report below].” Tompkins has seen photographs provided by Morton [...]

…what, wrong press conference? Oh….
At this time we are investigating the issue but are unable to determine a cause. We will continue to work with local authorities and inform the public of any changes in situation.

Wonder if there are any TRUE scientists out there, willing and able to search and find the truth about radiation bio concentration up the food chain? Are there any left?
Or do they all promise to research it, but then never do… or alternatively, they do, but are muzzled and never report their radiation findings?

Dr.
Excellent and I have tried to warn everyone that blood will soon be spurting from their own eyes.
It must start first with the fish and then this event will move up the food chains.
WE must all learn to be patient for our human fate will be exactly.. one and the same.
Best to prepare with an expensive good set of tight goggles with drain lines leading to bags and I guess something like eye catheters. Hey thats a winner concept for a new business…eye catheter bags!
The goggles will help keep down the amount of paper towels one will have to carry along with them in their travels, since there surely will be spills along the way. You know the wise civil authorities will demand that we clean up after ourselves, all these varied bloody eye spills, just like the doggie bags now required after we walk rover.
Now I must go to work on developing rover's eye catheter goggles and bags..the pet business huge!
And about to get a great deal bigger and all the vets are just waiting in line…

Hmmmm, lesions… just like the research in Russia on children with body loads of 10-50Bq/kg of cesium.
50Bq/kg guaranteed lesions in organs, glands and etc..
Anyone want to bet that if someone did whole body radiation scans of these critters, that cesium would show up, greater than 50Bq/kg?

Here's the only person that I could find that 'researched' the dead Alaskan Seals:
John J. Kelley, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus, Marine Science
School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences
University of Alaska Fairbanks
email: jjkelley@alaska.edu
He supposedly took tissue samples 2/12 and shipped them to some "lab" for testing. After several weeks results that he claimed to received from the lab showed "no unusual radiation."
How far down the rabbit hole or (fuku hole) do you really want to go?
Report comment
That is a problem, because that is NOT how to do whole body, internal radiation testing.
Say that cesium has accumulated in the organs and glands, thus causing the health problems.
But the skin and blubber contains almost NONE, becuase that is not where cesium accumulates.
So if he took a tissue sample where there is little or no cesium, he would get a 'no radiation' reading.
Also, who did the radiation testing, and how did they do it? Did they hold a cheap Geiger Counter a couple of feet away from the tissue and get a clear reading?
There are lots and lots of problems with this 'testing', if it did indeed happen.

The biologist suspects well known and documented fish virus(es):
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_hemorrhagic_septicemia
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/16903231/
Thought that might be important to point out.
Report comment
There is nothing like "bad" viruses or bacteria. They just recycle all dead or toxic things, a dead human body, animal, insect etc.. Nobody who is healthy needs to fear viruses.
What we have to fear is toxic stuff or radiation.
These fish did not die of viruses. I am not the expert, but I know it nevertheless. Read a (good) website of vaccine-opposers.
Report comment
The symptoms the fish are experiencing might be caused by other things besides "viral erythrocytic necrosis" or "viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus," such as:
(a) lack of oxygen in the water (couldn't radionuclides affect the oxygen ratio in the water?)
(b) a sudden rise in water temperature which can cause gases to expand rapidly and release gas bubbles which cause tissue damage (couldn't hot radionuclides cause an increase in water temperature?)
(c) exposure to environmental toxins (aren't radionuclides environmental toxins?)
(d) bacteria or parasites
(e) cancer – yes, fish can get cancer. A "gill tumor" in a fish can be caused by a thyroid problem. (radionuclides cause thyroid problems)

Mack. Or. The hemorraging could be caused by H2S…which can cause bleeding from the eyes, ears, and nose in humans…which accompanies methane in the Clathrate melt, fracking, forest fires, EQ and volcanic releases…(with two undersea volcanoes ongoing off the Baja and off Oregon.). It is not IMpossible and therefore possible…that the red "spots" and lesions on fish, sea lions, etc. are from being "burned" by the water. The problem with saying these horrific "poisonings" are definitely radioactive, which we're assuming by the mere fact that the information hasn't been released…and the problem of tracing any H2S involvement…is that the autopsies would have to be done within 6 hours of exposure …or else no trace remains and therefore would go undetected.

From your link describing how fish suffer from this virus;
"Fish that become infected experience hemorrhaging of their internal organs, skin, and muscle. Some fish show no external symptoms, but others show signs of infection that include bulging eyes, bloated abdomens, bruised-looking reddish tints to the eyes, skin, gills and fins. Some infected fish have open sores that may look like the lesions from other diseases or from lamprey attacks.[39]
There may also be a nervous form of the disease where fish are constantly flashing and showing abnormal behaviour.[40]"
Key word; SOME
What would it take for 100% of ALL fish to have exactly identical things going on?
And what is described above does not match exactly… also no reports of die offs…
Yes, salmon do have a major problem with this virus, and so do other wild fish.. and this school of herring swimming with salmon fry may be suffering from that virus.
Whether it is a virus or radiation, the biologists seem to be having the same problem that independent radiation researchers do.. no response from government or the 'experts' in charge.

is there any doubt radiation induced immune dysfunction enables spread of microbial disease? Its the same with the sea lions…sure it could be toxic algae etc, but who will trace the complex relation all the way through the toxic layers of mans insults?
Report comment
Yes CodeSD, No question or doubt that rad exposure lowers immune system.
As does any stressor to the system. (Like fish cooped up in farms and hatcheries).
Question here is are these fishies showing increased radition levels? There is absolutely no quoted evidence in the articles presented here ..
And the biologist requested *viral* testing. There is no suggestion of radiation.
Take care.

There is no evidence in the article of radiation because no evidence will be provided,
Go back to sleep while the human genome is decimated with micro deletions and other mutations
Report comment
It is well known that the immune system is compromised by low level radiation.
It is documented that low level radiation contamination happened in the Pacific.
It is documented that sea lions, seals, polar bears and now fish have all suffered from sores, hair loss, and internal damage, all in roughly the same time period, right after 3/11, to now.
Local areas might have had diseases and die offs before this.
What is different now is that the animals suffered from a HUGE mortality rate all the way from Alaska down to California.
This was NOT local. The biologists could NOT find any bacteria or virus.
Science is about looking for cause and effect..
Yes, it could be disease. This was ruled out.
Yes, it could be methane, but could that be a cause across thousands of miles of ocean?
Much more likely, because there is a definite release of HUGE amounts of radiation, and then right after that, a massive die off of sea animals, plus high radiation readings in seaweed, plantkton and algae.
Now we see small fish are affected in much the same way…
Yea, could be a disease, could be any number of things, but our bet is on radiation, moving up the food chain.. hope we are wrong, because if we are right, the consequences will appear soon in humans.

Doc .. I appreciate your passion but there is absolutely no evidence here that pathological (virus) testing was done by anyone.
There is also no evidence that rad testing was done.

Otherwise I think it's fair to say this is your opinion/speculation only that Fuku contamination is the source.
There is also an east coast suspected viral outbreak killing dolphins in the news.

Bleeding herring in Johnstone Strait tested for disease
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has confirmed a report by independent researcher Alexandra Morton that there are diseased herring in Johnstone Strait, near the north end of Vancouver Island.
Ms. Tompkins said the fish are being tested for a variety of diseases at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo.
“They started running the tests Friday, so it is a little early yet,” she said. “The expectation is we’ll know within two weeks, but we’ll know at the latest by the end of the month, early September.”
Ms. Tompkins said the herring will be tested for viral hemorrhagic septicemia, a disease that is lethal to herring and typically causes hemorrhaging around the eyes, mouths and fins.
She said there have been no reports of sick herring anywhere else on the British Columbia coast.
DFO so far has only collected herring samples near Sointula.

Naw, it only took a couple of seconds to find the facts…
We'll see if they produce the resultant data. Like the testing data on the seals, polar bears and other creatures with lesions all over their skin.
Even if that testing shows disease, it still doesn't rule out 2.5 years of Fukushima fallout, gushing into the sea, as the triggering factor of disease…

Of course, on the other side of things, TEPCO is testing fish near FUKU, and reports just about all fish are 'safe', both small and large fish..
Their reporting of safe fish is odd, when put together with the known dumping of radioactive water and fuel rods at the bottom of the ocean from #3 exploding. How could fish be safe in this environment?
But, TEPCO will not allow ANYONE to test other than TEPCO within 5 miles of the FUKU site. This does not look like an open, transparent and truly scientific process that can be confirmed by anyone who desires to.
