The Ipcress Copy: Damian Lewis is spitting image of Michael Caine's iconic character Harry Palmer as he films Our Kind of Traitor

By Felicity Thistlethwaite

Imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery – and hopefully Michael Caine’s aware of that.

Damian Lewis, 43, has been spotted filming for his new role in Our Kind of Traitor on the banks of the Thames river looking like Michael’s character Harry Palmer from hit 1960s movie The Ipcress File.

Wearing a beige Aquascutum overcoat and thick-rimmed glasses Damian’s character, a member of British intelligence, looks like the spitting image of Harry Palmer - a British army sergeant forcibly drafted into the security services to work away a prison sentence.

Damian was filming scenes on the banks of the river Thames in London, wearing a beige overcoat, a plaid scarf and smart trousers.

His trademark red locks were swept to one side and he prowled along the shore taking a phone call for most of the scene.

The former Homeland actor drew in quite a crowd of fans as he filmed in the capital city; the droves of fans lined up to watch the 43-year-old.

The hype surrounding the movie, which is doesn’t have a current release date, is building as more and more celebrity names are announced as being involved in the release.

Damian will join Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris in the big-screen adaptation of the John le Carre novel – to play a member of British intelligence.

Ralph Fiennes was originally cast in the hotly-anticipated thriller, but he dropped out and was replaced by The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo actor Stellan Skarsgård.

Maybe I am blind or stupid. But I do not understand the comparison. You could put anyone in a a jacket with some glasses and say that they look like someone else. They are not even playing the same character. The movies are based on books by two different authors. Bad writing and very insightful.
