The cowboy hat Matthew McConaughey wore for his Oscar-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club sold for $12,956 on Thursday.
After only 12 bids, the timeless topper reached three times its starting bid price of $3,000.
Los Angeles-based auctioneer Nate D. Sanders originally purchased the hat for $1,291 at the SAFG auctions, but he felt it had the 'potential for much more.'

The size 7, white 10-gallon hat - designed by Texas brand Resistol - came with a certificate of authenticity from Universal Pictures.
Under the four-inch brim, the 44-year-old actor used his signature phrase for the autograph: 'Just Keep Living, Matthew McConaughey.'
Matthew famously dropped nearly 50 pounds to play HIV-positive Ron Woodroof, and he ended up scoring Oscar gold.

'I have a lot to be thankful for,' McConaughey told People magazine.
The True Detective actor said his career 'McConaissance' would not have been possible without his wife Camila and three children - Levi, 5, Vida, 4, and 15-month-old son Livingston.
Matthew said: 'My life outside my career is extremely enriching, so I am letting that feed my work, and letting my work feed my life.'

I watched the "Dallas Buyers Club" last night and was both disgusted by the FDA and moved to tears by those so desperate for anything to make them feel better, delay the progression of the disease, and movement by those brave souls leading the "buyers clubs." Matthew McConaughey's physical transformation for the role was shocking.
