'Really upset' Blythe Danner 'begged' daughter Gwyneth Paltrow not to end marriage to Chris Martin

By Alanna Lynott

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin seem to be taking their 'conscious uncoupling' in their stride.

But there's one person who took news of the split badly and that's Gwyneth's mother Blythe Danner.

'[She's] really upset. She loves Chris,' a source told US Weekly. 'She begged Gwyneth not to end it, that he's a good man. But Gwyneth had to do what she felt was best.'

Gwyneth announced her split from Martin on Tuesday, via her healthy-living site Goop.com.

They really tried to make it work,' the insider added. 'You could tell something was wrong, though, over the last few months. You could see a sadness in each of their eyes.'

Emmy Award-winning actress Danner, 71, was married to Bruce Paltrow for over 30 years until his death in 2002.

Last year, Gwyneth revealed that her parents' relationship served as an inspiration for her own.

She said: 'I asked my dad once, "How did you and Mom stay married for 33 years?" And he said, "Well, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time."

'I think that's what happens,' the Iron Man star added. 'When two people throw in the towel at the same time, then you break up, but if one person's saying, "Come on, we can do this," you carry on.'

The pair are currently holidaying together in Eleuthera - which is the Greek word for Freedom - in the Bahamas, with their two children Apple, 9, and Moses, 7 where they flew the day before announcing their separation.

'Conscious Uncoupling': One of the more surprises elements of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow's split was that they had purchased their Malibu home just days before the announcement

A source at the North Eleuthera airport said they 'didn't seem happy or unhappy' when they arrived, and they wore sunglasses keeping a low profile, giving no indication anything was amiss between them.

On Friday, the actress ended her latest Goop newsletter, sent via email to subscribers to the website, saying: ‘CM and I in deep gratitude for the support of so many.’

The heartfelt message ended with a heart symbol.

Gwyneth's post comes as the New York Post's PageSix claimed the couple still plan to co-habit in their new $14m Malibu home – albeit in separate wings, as the family come to terms with the separation.

A music industry source told the website: 'The place actually includes two totally separate living spaces under one roof so Paltrow and Martin can live together - apart - during their divorce.’

A property insider revealed: 'For this property a new trust was created, called Magical Kingdom Land (trust), which signaled something definitely changed between the pair'.

'Everything else they have owned together, including homes in London and New York was bought under Orchard House LLC'.

Meanwhile, another source has revealed: 'Gwyneth is in love with her fancy place in Brentwood. The beach house purchase was the first clear sign that they were working out the final details of announcing their split'.

The pair relocated from Belsize Park, London to the West coast of America last year.

Chris's band Coldplay are preparing to release their new album Ghost Stories, in May.

A track from the song Magic, which is taken off the new album, has lyrics many are saying is about the singer’s relationship with blonde Gwyneth.

It reads: ‘And if you were to ask me after all that we’ve been through, “Still believe in magic?” Well, yes, I do.’

It’s said the frontman and his record label, Parlophone, were hoping the album would drop before the split from his Hollywood wife.

Another industry source told the site: ‘When news began to leak that the couple’s marriage was on the rocks, Paltrow decided to pull the trigger to go public on Goop.’

I like Chris so much better than Gwyneth.

I am not a fan of Coldplay, but think Chris Martin deserves a medal for sticking with it for so long - she seems such a self-absorbed, patronising woman, with no idea whatsoever about the real world and even perhaps the real people in it. Yet he seems so nice, kind and reliable that I bet he would still have stuck with her come what may. She is a fool. Genuinely.

People grow apart/change whatever. It's sad, particularly when there are children involved, but you have to hope that they will be (what they seem to be) grown up and try to put the children before themselves.

I read that he would be based in London. So, this split is not going to make those poor children's lives any better. Day to day stuff. Initially, it seemed to be advantageous for them, but it could be awful for them.

sounds like they bought the house planning on sharing it while leading separate lives....maybe it was to save money or as a joint investment....kind of odd......

Blythe Danner always seems a really warm, funny woman, whereas Gwyneth seems almost sterile in her approach to life. For a young good looking woman she has nothing about her. Always thought they were unlikely pairing.

She is more interested in taking the advice of her PR's and "health/love guru" than listening to common sense. Must be desperate to move on to the next mug, but with more money as her film career is in the pan as the studios do not want her, not liked by the US public.
