Milestones of Progress: Different organizations working on water quality from the government, private sector and NGOs have now started to coordinate and work more on quality assurance and accuracy mechanisms. No water quality monitoring strategy is in place to map results and coordinate water quality testing. Steps Remaining to Fully Achieve: Development of national water safety plan, specific focus on arsenic and fluoride risk areas/technical and financial support of donors/partners and the Government for execution of the plan. Manual on arsenic and fluride testing has been developed. Likely to Achieve for 2014? Possible (with extra effort) Influence of 2012 HLM on progress of commitment: Some Influence |

Political Prioritization |

Milestones of Progress: The changing political situation such as the withdrawal of international forces and the closure of the Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) are resulting in low funds for development activities including WASH. Donors are not willing to continue funding until the new government is in place. The security situation is the third milestone which is discouraging. There is low level political support and more focus on water projects for irrigation and big infrastructure rather than drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. Steps Remaining to Fully Achieve: To start designing the World Bank funded projects. The government investment needs to be increased and more advocacy and political support needs to come to the sector by the government and the donor communities. Likely to Achieve for 2014? Yes, likely Influence of 2012 HLM on progress of commitment: Some influence |
