Divorced over-40s are increasingly enjoying short-lived intense relationships just like teenagers, new figures on divorce show.

The data reveals that more and more forty-somethings are quickly embarking on new relationships that only last a short period of time with the growth of internet dating believed to be behind the rise.

The analysis of divorce figures also show that many are also rushing into remarrying on the rebound before quickly finding out it was a mistake.

The figures overall show that fewer people are opting to divorce, but the fall in divorce rates is slower among the over-45 age group.

But the new data shows that many forty-somethings are rushing into marrying for a second time, quickly finding out it was a mistake

In addition, the number of marriages that fail during the first two years has also dropped overall, but has remained on the up for forty-somethings.

According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, between 2009 and 2012, the number of men divorcing dropped by almost three per cent. Over the last 10 years it has dropped by 39 per cent.

But for men aged over 45, the decline was only by 13 per cent.

Voula Grand, a psychologist and writer told the Telegraph: 'There are a lot of people who get out of long marriages only to get into a new marriage and get into it very quickly.

'I can't help wondering whether there is a link with the number of people who meet their next partner online. Internet dating has become a very acceptable way for older people to meet new people.

'And many of them seem to hurry towards a second marriage and quickly find out it was a mistake.'

It isn't against the law to want female company after a certain age. However, many men have suffered through the Families Court and therefore are a bit cautious about going through it all again, hence shorter relationships with minimal commitment. .Women also have their own reasons for not wanting long-term relationships

Feel sorry for these desperate, needy forty plus single women who's kids have grown up, if they had any at all, and feel quite lost. They can get into a rut of living this lifestyle.

More UN agenda 21 policies being thrust into the public domain. The break up of the traditional family is one of the of UN agenda 21 policies, and it was the Labour Government (UNDER HONEST BLAIR) who signed us up to it in 1992. But don't believe me, ask any treasonous labour MP about it and they deny everything.

@Cornelius: John Major and the Tories were in charge in 1992. Blair didn't take power for another five years.

We are so obsessed with ourselves, tolerance and compromise has become a thing of the past. We want perfection and we want it now. In many cases the over 40's can see the change in their partner but not in themselves and without a bit of tolerance they have no hope. If the situation is not as we want it we are off for something we think is better. Trouble is with all this me me me, we forget the viewpoint of the kids. The trouble is this generation generally have always had what we wanted and have never had to sacrifice our own wants for an unselfish cause.
