Jerry Seinfeld’s 1964 Porsche 911 — a classic among classics.

on
Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is one of the world’s most assiduous collectors of classic Porsches. You can see him driving all manner of cars in the YouTube romp, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but he’s best known as a Porsche collector. Back in 1996, he chanced upon what is thought to be one of the earliest   [Read More]

Honda hoovers it up — a novel way to clean your minivan

on
It seemed like a logical idea — instead of hauling a vacuum cleaner over to your car to clean out all that debris that has accumulated (gravel, popcorn, snowstorm detritus, cookie crumbs, fast food leavings, spilled salt), why not have the vacuum cleaner built into the car? Turns out the logical idea came from the   [Read More]

New York auto show — a small but fast Benz and a Camaro Z28 are among the new cars.

on
Mercedes-Benz today introduced a fierce little four-wheel-drive car that is destined to do battle with BMW and Audi and should be available in the U.S. by November. It’s dubbed the CLA45 AMG 4Matic (I hope you’re all taking notes) and is said to run zero to 60 in four and a half seconds and top   [Read More]

2013 Lexus ES300h — a hybrid butler, at your service

on
The butler idea didn’t really occur to me until I approached the 2013 Lexus ES300h one night. As I got close to it, the interior lights swooshed softly on, much like stage lights. Then my feet were illuminated by a glowing bath of puddle lights hidden in the bottom of the driver’s outside mirror. The   [Read More]

Summer is coming, sources say, and it’s time to think of droptops

on
In some parts of the country, it’s already warm and in others it’s getting there… sort of. At any rate, the inexorable advance of the calendar will bring us summer and with summer comes hot weather and with hot weather, the convertible. (This ploy to get you thinking about convertibles is simply a blatant plug   [Read More]

Ford’s new Fusion plug-in hybrid bows in San Francisco

on
A dozen years ago, you’d be hard put to find a mass market hybrid or fully electric car being sold in the United States. Sure, there were backyard inventors who were cobbling up interesting electrics and a few of the major car makers were making all-electrics in an effort to appease California regulators who had   [Read More]

2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 — docile is not the word

on
After weeks of testing docile little PC cars, mewling hybrids, cautious fuel-sippers that creep fearfully by gas stations, it’s nice to have a rip-roaring politically outrageous monster that does zero to sixty in less than five seconds and does it loud. Stomp that pedal and hold on to that fat leather-covered wheel. You are gone,   [Read More]

National Automobile Museum — the remnants of the fabled Harrah Collection

on
The late casino mogul William F. Harrah was the ultimate Car Guy and so it was no surprise that he should buy and maintain a collection of about 1,400 classic and antique cars. They were kept in a compound of warehouses in Sparks, just east of Reno, where Harrah had a big hotel and casino   [Read More]

2013 Ford C-Max — an alternative to the Prius

on
In these times of tight money (ignoring the stock market’s recent surge), buying a new car can be an angst-ridden experience.  Many buyers want as efficient a machine that they can get for as few dollars as possible. Hybrids will get you better fuel mileage numbers, but hybrids can also be pricier than a non-hybrid   [Read More]
