When they bumped into each other in a chance encounter at their favourite dermatology clinic, talk circulated that the pair had finally bonded on a girls' pampering day.

And after new reports suggested Beyoncé, 32, and Kim Kardashian, 33, are still worlds apart, a friend of the reality star has hit back at claims of a snub on the superstar singer's behalf.

Gossip website Radaronline reported on Thursday that when the two arrived for overlapping appointments at the Lancer Dermatology offices in Beverly Hills, 'Beyoncé did not want to talk to Kim’.

But another onlooker has said that on the contrary, the pair - whose partners Jay-Z and Kanye West are close friends - enjoyed a girlie catch-up.

A source told MailOnline: 'Beyonce and Kim did speak at the clinic. They had a friendly chat and then went about their days.'

It had originally been claimed that the singer put on a polite show then swiftly moved on, leaving Kim fuming at the lack of attention.

An eyewitness to the reported awkward encounter told RadarOnline: 'Kim seemed so excited to see Beyoncé and was really eagerly going over to her.

'But Beyoncé looked like she wanted nothing to do with Kim and was really trying to stay away from her.

'Kim was basically fawning all over her. The two women did have a brief chat, with Beyonce asking about Kardashian’s daughter North West.'

According to the source, Kim, proud mother to North West, born on 15 June, gushed over Beyonce's two-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, saying: 'It’s so good to be a mom and North is great and I love being with her. She’s just amazing.'

However, Kim’s attempt to bond over motherhood did not appear entirely well-received.

The source added: 'Beyoncé looked like she couldn’t have cared less. It seemed so clear that she did not want to talk with Kim and was just being polite to her. They really didn’t look at all like friends.

'Beyoncé’s motto has always been, less is more. But clearly when it comes to Kim, more means more,' the source said.

The source continued: 'Make no mistake, the only reason Beyoncé is going to the wedding is because Jay is best friend’s with Kanye. She knows she’ll have to go to the wedding, but really does not to want to.'

The ladies posed together happily at last year's Met Ball, but are rarely seen together socially.

Beyonce perhaps fears a backlash from fans.

When Kim began dating Kanye she and Beyoncé were photographed at a European concert dancing together as they watches a performance from their respective beaus.

Beyoncé's fans quickly criticised the pop star for spending time with Kim, whose rise to stardom began due to her appearance in a sex tape.

Since then, Beyoncé has appeared to keep her distance from the well-endorsed television personality, reportedly even ignoring her at Jay-Z and Kanye's shows when they have both been in attendance.

Look, with this level of show business, you can't pull at the strands of each avenue and decide what is honourable and what isn't. They have both made money out of selling themselves and it is only relative what we deem inappropriate and 'talent'. Beyonce is no level above Kim K, she made money out of sex, skimpy outfits and NEVER focused on her voice until she was successful enough to go in the direction that she has gone in now. Beyonce and Jay-Z have moulded themselves into people they aren't and are parodies of themselves. Reading some of Beyonce's open letters was so cringeworthy- she has the grammar and handwriting of a 6 year old- she has taken time to superficially decorate her character rather than focus on the internal attributes of a fully respectable and educated person that she tries to act like.
