Me? I'm a laid back, happy-go-lucky, no-nonsense person. I like meeting new people, visiting new places, building stuff and taking photos.
A software engineer by trade, I'm a human by actions; I build web applications for a living, blog to siphon off excess thoughts, do photography for fun and travel for rejuvenation.
I got the blogging bug back in 1999 when a new service called Blogger came along & I read in some tech magazine about it and what blogging is. Blogging continued on & off from then till 2004 but reading continued regularly. It was in early 2004 when I came across WordPress and on 1st April 2004 I got back into active blogging drive on my web development blog. Then later in 2005 I came across a really easy way of writing Hindi (my mother tongue) in unicode using phonetic keyboard mapping and hence started my Hindi blog. Since early 2006 I became involved behind the scenes in a number of hindi community projects of Akshargram Network, which included the popular Hindi blog aggregator Narad. I also co-founded the first Hindi discussion forum Paricharcha in 2006.
Since January 2007, I've also been associated with Global Voices Online, as an author in the South Asia team, & Paula Góes interviewed me once for Global Voices Online.
I co-founded Delhi Blog and New Media Society, a non-profit entity for promotion of blogging & citizen media in New Delhi and National Capital Region, with 3 other fellow bloggers in January 2008. The society's first event on 12th January 2008 got exclusive coverage by NDTV and it is now a 500+ strong community.
In May 2008 launch of Indian Blog and New Media Society was officially announced. IBNMS is a not-for-profit grouping of all stakeholders in the blog and new media space from India but open to membership from all over the world. I'm one of the proud co-founders of IBNMS and currently serve as a Director(Technology) on its board. The society kicked off in style by organising (in collaboration with DBNMS) first ever BlogCamp in Delhi.
- blog.igeek.info –› This story began on 1st April 2004, intended to be my all purpose blog but I wrote mostly web development stuff on it, now its solely my web-dev blog.
- hindiblog.org –› In late 2005 I came across some easy to use tools through which anyone could write Hindi in unicode using a phonetic keyboard scheme. This is when I thought I'd start my Hindi blog as I thought I'd be among the first few who might've thought of this!! ;) But soon the truth unfurled on me as I found out there are already a number of Hindi bloggers around & they welcomed me with open arms into their big hearts and small but closely knit community. :) I've been blogging ever since here on this blog regularly.

- GitHub –› All my open source code. I open source almost all of the code I write for myself & its all available here.
- iG:Syntax Hiliter –› A plugin that I made for WordPress to enable colour coding of any code posted in blog posts or comments by employing easy to use tags. Used an open source package called GeSHi as the engine to parse the code. Before it was moved to WordPress.org plugin repo, it had been downloaded more than 25,000 times. I revived it again in January 2013 with a complete re-write and it is an active plugin.
- iG:Twitter Cards –› A plugin which enables Twitter Cards on a WordPress website to present the website in an extra useful and stylish way when anyone shares the website URLs on Twitter, be it Twitter website or Twitter mobile app.
- PMC Benchmark –› A handy plugin to have when developing on WordPress. It shows you which hooks are slow in execution in plugins and current theme.
- PMC Edit Lock Marker –› A plugin to mark the posts on wp-admin/edit.php page which are currently being edited by other users. Since this functionality is now part of WordPress core since v3.6, this plugin is defunct & no longer maintained.
- iG:CoComment –› Another free & open source plugin that I made for WordPress to make it fully compatible with CoComment service. The plugin is no longer usable as the CoComment service is no more.
- www.digitblog.com –› I co-founded this group blog in 2005 on everyday technologies related to both computers and other fields of science/technology. Its claim to fame came later that year when in October 2005 this blog was shown on a tech show on BBC World which resulted in an increase in traffic and readership, due to its useful articles etc.

Started this blog's second innings in April 2008, after almost an year's hibernation and 3 years from the date when it was started, & it wasn't much long before it again went into hibernation. - hindi.digitblog.com –› Hindi Edition of diGit Blog, like its English counterpart, it too went into hibernation.
- food.wanderer.in –› Since I am a foodie who loves to try out different kinds of dishes and cuisines, I started this group food and drinks blog in April 2007. Unfortunately, due to lack of time from myself and other stakeholders, it was put in cryo-sleep.
- eye.amitgupta.in –› In January 2006, I started this video blog of mine, not a typical vlog showing my videos but some interesting videos that I found on internet and also some were shot by myself. Also tried my hand at podcasting on this blog for the first time. It was fun while it lasted but now permanently de-commissioned.
