Bishop Appoints Delegate to Anglican Priests Seeking Catholic Ordination

The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge has announced the appointment of Msgr. Jeffrey A. Ingham, V.F., Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Southern Pines, as his delegate to attend to Anglican Priests who may petition for ordination to the Priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church. The appointment follows the announcement November 15 by Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C., that a new ordinariate for former Anglicans in the United States will be established January 1, 2012.

The ordinariate stems from the apostolic constitution Anglicanorum coetibus issued by Pope Benedict XVI in November, 2009, which calls for the creation of geographic regions, ordinariates, similar to dioceses but national in scope. Hence, there will be one ordinariate in the United States. Parishes in the ordinariate will be Catholic, yet retain elements of the Anglican heritage and liturgical practices. The ‘ordinary’ will be named on January 1, 2012.

Msgr. Ingham’s appointment as delegate to Anglican Priests seeking ordination to Roman Catholic Priesthood in the ordinariate is effective November 18, 2011.
