Anasayfa - Information on the Institution - Admission requirements

Entry into higher education in Turkey is through the student selection examinations named YGS and LYS. The placement into most of the first cycle degree programmes is made solely  based on the scores obtained from this exams. Students taking the exams make their choices of degree programmes, and send their list to The Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), which is affiliated to The Higher Education Council (YÖK). The ÖSYM receives all the applications, group the applications with  respect to the score type (such as languages, literature, science, and social sciences),  list them from the highest score to the lowest, list all the available degree programmes based on the demand for them, and places the students with sufficient scores to one of the selections they have made.

Students willing to enrol to the Faculty of Fine Arts, School of Physical Education and Sports and The State Conservatory are subjected to general and as well as special conditions defined by the University’s Senate with the related Boards’ opinions. For such programmes,  the above mentioned exams are  partial prerequisites for placement, and the students willing to continue education in these fields are required to show their skills in the field, which is checked via an exam carried by the related faculty. The final list of students is decided by adding up a pre-determined percentages of the above mentioned exam scores and the local exam.

Students having the right to enrol will do their registrations on certain dates, usually the first week of September. Students that meet the above mentioned conditions and have a valid excuse can do their admission registration through their relatives or family.

Students who have started studies and achieved credits in other universities within or outside of the country may apply for their recognition. The recognition record is unique for each student and therefore the procedure is carried out accordingly before the start of each academic year.

For foreign students

The selection of foreign students into the higher education institutions in Turkey is managed via an examination called KTÜ YÖS EXAM organized by the university itself. KTÜ YÖS is only for those applicants who wish to enrol in a study programme as degree seeking students.

The first condition for those wishing to take KTÜ YÖS is that they must hold the nationality of a country other than Turkey. For more details about KTÜ YÖS EXAM, please visit the web page of KTÜ YÖS Coordinatorship

For exchange students

Under an established exchange programme or the one approved by the University (such as the LLP Erasmus Programme), the exchange students from abroad may be accepted for studies in the courses taught in English. Or, if they are confident in Turkish, they may then enrol to any courses, running in Turkish, shown on the “Course Structure” diagram of relevant programme.

The exchange students are required to visit the Directorate of Students Affairs for registration with the university with the help of their host student. The International Office representatives will direct the students from their first arrival till the last day of their stay. The documents needed for this process include a) the letter of acceptance, b) the learning agreement, and c) an official letter to be received from the International Office addressed to the registrar. The enrollment is made spantaneously and the students are given a temporary student ID card to enable them to use the library and other university facilities stratight away, as well as an official letter to be used for the residence permit.

Obtaining residence permit: All exchange students are strongly advised to visit the department of foreigners at the main police station within a week of their arrival to Trabzon for their registration. It is important that the students make available the following items to submit to the officer in charge:
  • 6 passport size photographs taken within the last 6 months,
  • An official document to be obtained from the accommodation office at the University indicating the address of the exchange student,
  • A document to be obtained from the International Office at the University, or a document certifying your studentship here in Trabzon,
  • Copies of the first page of your passport containing your picture, and the page that contains the valid Turkish visa,
  • A fee for residence permit
  • Student ID card to be obtained from the registrar,
