But after a later night partying, Lupita Nyong'o, 31, hid under a head scarf as she finally emerged from her hotel.

The 12 Years A Slave actress was captured sheltering from the sunlight behind her shades as she left The Mark Hotel in New York City on Tuesday.

She wasn't the only one to make a late start on the day.

Stars such as Karolina Kurkova, Kate Bosworth and Kate Mara had their shades jammed on as they finally made a start on the day.

The always on-trend Lupita opted for a comfortable yet stylish approach for her post-Met Gala outfit, teaming an edgy leather blazer with a figure-hugging pair of jeans.

And unlike her attention-grabbing netted dress, Lupita seemed to have favoured a more inconspicuous appearance, pairing a reflective set of sunglasses with a stylish black headwrap.

The Yale School Of Drama graduate accessorised with a chunky pearl necklace, and clung to her phone while striding outside of the hotel.

And while the actress appeared to be in high spirits, she also seemed slightly fatigued following the high-fashion Met Gala event.

She certainly wasn't the only one.

Sarah Silverman turned heads in her dramatic red gown alongside boyfriend Michael Sheen at the Met Gala, however appeared fatigue upon arriving back to Los Angeles on Tuesday.

It was a different story on Monday night, when the stars dazzled on the red carpet at what is considered on of fashion's biggest nights.

For her part Lupita divided audiences by wearing a netted green Prada dress in an ensemble praised by Vogue Magazine, and critisized by numerous social media commentators.

Grazia Magazine invited their followers to 'discuss' Lupita's daring feathered outfit on Twitter on Monday.

One particularly animated user tweeted that Lupita 'looks like an extra from Lost.'

According to IMDB, Lupita is rumoured to be starring alongside Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming Jungle Book drama as Rakcha.

The Hollywood Reporter described the upcoming Disney project as a 'live-action/CG hybrid' adaptation of the original animated film.
