Sarah Jessica Parker had clearly been taking tips from her Sex And The City character Carrie Bradshaw as she escaped into the night, on Monday evening.

The 49-year-old looked uber glamorous as she left the Met Gala afterparty with her silk Oscar de la Renta hoisted up so it didn’t drag along the New York sidewalk.

Showing off her gold shoes and her handbag thrown under her arm, Sarah looked like she’d had a great time at the exclusive venue with her A-list friends.

Sarah’s SATC character Carrie was famously given an Oscar de la Renta pink cocktail dress she had been yearning for by her boyfriend Aleksandr Petrovsky in season six– and they danced in an open-air square in New York together.

And it would seem the actress has had something of a penchant for the designer ever since.

Flashing her tanned calves the actress carried her thick, heavy skirt with both hands as she tottered along the cobbled streets in her stilettos, late at night.

It's a big deal: The star had to carry the skirt of her dress to stop it dragging on the sidewalk

Earlier that evening her dress drew gasps as she arrived on the red carpet at the Met Gala earlier that evening – held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, and is renowned for the preposterous outfits worn by attendees.

The actress’s dress sported a cream silken skirt with black detail at the waistband while the top of the dress was more fitted and black.

At the back, the skirt lengthened into a huge train with a criss-cross pattern through the material and Oscar de la Renta’s signature along the hem in a vibrant red.

Her trademark long locks were teased into an impressive up-do, and she had flowers pinned into the underneath of her hair.

Finishing the outfit Sarah, known fondly as SJP, wore long white silk gloves – perfect for the white tie and decorations theme for the party.
