Liberata Mulamula became ambassador of Tanzania to the United States on July 18, 2013, having previously served as senior personal assistant to the president of Tanzania since March 2012.

Before that, she served as the first executive secretary of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) with headquarters in Bujumbura, Burundi, from 2006 to 2011.

In addition, she served at the Tanzania High Commission to Canada and Permanent Mission to New York as minister plenipotentiary and head of chancery, respectively, from 1999 to 2003 before being appointed ambassador and director of multilateral cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a post she held until 2006. Ambassador Mulamula was also a part-time lecturer on the “art of negotiations” at the Centre for Foreign Relations in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and participated in the Rwandese peace talks, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of the Facilitators Team.

Ambassador Mulamula is a graduate of St. John’s University in New York, where she obtained her master’s degree in government and politics, and of the University of Dar-es Salaam.

She is married to George Mulamula and has two kids, Tanya and Alvin.
