   Public health is about helping people to stay healthy, and protecting them from threats to their health. The government wants everyone to be able to make healthier choices, regardless of their circumstances, and to minimise the risk and impact of illness. Read more

   The government provides funding and support for local emergency services including the police, fire and ambulance services, and sets national standards to make sure they are effective and consistent. Read more

   The government is giving local councils more power to decide how to spend public money in their areas so they can meet local people's needs.
