Women with hourglass figures should go for vintage and apples should avoid thin straps: Infographic reveals how to choose the RIGHT swimsuit for your body type

By Travelmail Reporter

How to choose the right swimsuit for different body shapes is a conundrum for most women as the holiday season fast approaches.

And a new infographic is offering advice to those getting ready for a summer beach break.

Swimwear That Suits, compiled by beauty experts at www.hotbeautyhealth.com, allows women to find the perfect swimsuit or bikini based on their shape.

Users can start by working out what body type they have from the most common types - hourglass, apple, triangle or athletic type - and then follow the graphic for tips on what style to go for, and what to avoid.

Women with an athletic shape are told to go for frills and gathering to 'help create the optical illusion of curves', whereas anyone with an hourglass figure is told that vintage cuts are perfect, according to the advice.

The infographic states: 'Whether you're catching waves at the beach or simply relaxing by the pool, choosing the right swimwear for your shape is essential.

'Forget hiding under sarongs or covering up any imagined flaws.

'It's all about finding the ideal cut and style that will give you that perfect beach body.'

DM you got your flow chart wrong. If your shoulders are wider than your hips you are an inverted triangle. A triangle has wider hips.

This is ridiculous unhelpful. My shoulders are wider than my hips, but that has nothing to do with my bustline, which is an A-cup. So I dont need any additional strap support or anything. What a load of rubbish.

Anyone else notice that the flow chart has a mistake? It says you are an inverted triangle if your hips are wider than your shoulders and a triangle if your shoulders are wider than your hips...should be the other way around

ummm, no, some people should NOT wear whatever they want to the beach or pool. I don't have a flat stomach so I don't dare wear a bikini. I have large breasts so I wear a sensible one piece with extra support up top that cinches my waist. I used to go to Sea World/ Fiesta Texas during summer and ack! some women were wearing UNBELIEVABLY unflattering bathing suits. Lady, if you just had a baby and still have a post baby pooch with huge red bear claw scratches (stretchmarks) all over your tummy, please cover up. Hey you, the 300lb lady, please, i don't want to see you in a bikini.

I have a better idea. What about we females wear our chins up, heads held high with a wonderful air of confidence about us when we go to the beach? How about enjoying our beach vacations, not worrying about how we look and instead thinking about the sun, the sand between our toes, the delicious margaritas, the sunsets, etc. To he** with "rules". Life is good.....and too short to be wondering what others are thinking about us. Show me either a skinny or well-developed gal who enjoys life's simple pleasures.....THAT is a thing of beauty....not how thin her straps are or how vintage her bikini is. Live well, ladies. Let's enjoy ourselves and our blessings.

women with whatever body type should wear whatever the heck they want. and I love how they sort of complimented some body types and then said the athletic one was just straight up and down and should try to give the illusion of curves.

Wow, earth-shattering news to not emphasize your trouble spots. Good thing they're doing the heavy duty thinking for me.

How about towing the line 'your figure on the beach and the pathetic people who judge you based on that' are actually irrelevant and as long as you are happy and healthy who cares what chauvinistic pigs think?
