Sealed with a kiss! Amazing moment a seal approaches woman on the beach and starts rubbing her nose with his

By Daily Mail Reporter

Amazing video footage captures the moment a woman bravely sits beside a wild seal on a remote sub-Antarctic island and the massive animal gives her a friendly kiss on the nose.

South Georgia Island, which lies between the southernmost tip of South America and the northernmost stretches of chilly Antarctica, is home to huge colonies of elephant seals.

The beasts can weigh up to 6,000 pounds, but the woman in the video doesn't let the animal's huge size or its capacity for violence to stop her. As she sits and appears to coax the seal with a treat, it slowly approaches her.

Before long, the seal is directly in the woman's face and their noses make contact, but the unbelievable footage doesn't end there.

Soon the seal is actually on top of the woman and all the while she smiles as if totally unaware that at any moment the animal or a member of its extended family could descend on her.

Thankfully, nothing like that happens and the stunning footage ends...but not before the unlikely pair share a  few more Eskimo kisses.

Seal have been known to bite and attack people so don't even think of trying this.

Just watching seal and the lady was awesome! To have an animal do that showed some real affection! That seal was head over heels with her.. No holds barred of his affection at all. Some women long to get that from their partners. Um.. Could've been a female seal. Either way, good viewing

I think that seal must know her.... maybe she was a young marine biologist or conversationalist who once helped it or something .. there seems to be more recognition in this video that in uncanny or its an affection signal. scientists or seal experts should study this behaviour .

it's very fortunate she had not just finished a lunch of sardine sandwiches.

Visited South Georgia with the Royal Navy and when on the beaches you don't get between the seals and the sea. You also don't approach the females when their calving! They can be as vicious and as fast as a Pitbull. As for the Bulls, they only have one gear, forward and fast!

Uh, I'm just guessing she's a researcher and knows exactly what she's doing. Of course wildlife are unpredictable. Probably why she didn't make any sudden movements. Just a reminder: humans have recently been known to chew off someone's face. Ooh, but watch out for those aggressive wildlifes!

I'm sure that backwards flipping of the tail is anmating signal... Sounds suspect... It's cute but this woman could have been killed....

Pretty stupid of her. Looks cute, but could have ended terribly. I wonder who she would sue if she had been mauled.

as cute as it was, the woman could not have responded quickly if she had had to. The seal could have gotten on her legs or chest

If you look it up on youtube it DOES lay right over her, it was a young one.

There's nothing "brave" about this idiot.

Sure it's cute and all, but that seal could have just as easily bit her face. One must be wary around wild animals.

That is so cool, so awesome, animals are smart and use senses we don't have. I would have done the same thing she did, extend forward to kiss b/c that's how seals communicate. Well done!!!

So living in Arizona you must have seen the interaction between seals frequently! I have lived my life around salt water areas where ALL are advised to stay away from wildlife as they are unpredictable. Seals cam become very aggressive quickly - this woman is lucky she has a face left. Coaxing a wild animal with treats is just stupid - what would she have done if the seal decided her face looked like a nice appetizer or dessert?

She is lucky it did not bite her nose off!

If this wasn't staged, it was stupid. The seal could have taken her face off if his fish breath didn't get her first. This isn't a petting zoo.
