'KID' STUFF: It's understandable if Justin Bieber is feeling old.

On "Never Say Never," which enters the Billboard Hot 100 as the Hot Shot Debut at No. 33, the 16-year-old shares the mic with featured artist Jaden Smith, who won't turn 12 until July 8.

The song serves as the theme to the new version of the film "The Karate Kid," in which Smith stars as the title character. Ralph Macchio portrayed the franchise's namesake protagonist in its first three offerings in 1984, 1986 and 1989. Hilary Swank assumed the title role in "The Next Karate Kid" in 1994 (the year that Bieber was born).

"Never Say Never" is the fifth song released in tandem with a "Karate Kid" movie to reach the Hot 100. (Bieber and Smith's song has been released as a stand-alone digital single; the prior four songs appeared on official film soundtracks. Also notably, Joe "Bean" Esposito's memorable "Karate Kid" anthem "You're the Best" never reached the Hot 100 and Bananarama's "Cruel Summer," though featured prominently in the 1984 film, was not included on its soundtrack). Here is a look at the tracks' chart performances:

Hot 100 Peak, Title, Artist, Year
No. 1, "Glory of Love," Peter Cetera, 1986
No. 21, "Earth Angel," New Edition, 1986
No. 33, "Never Say Never," Justin Bieber featuring Jaden Smith, 2010
No. 63, "The Moment of Truth," Survivor, 1984
No. 93, "This Is the Time," Dennis DeYoung, 1986

With Jaden Smith making his Billboard chart debut, the actor adds to his family's musical legacy. His father, Will Smith, has been a regular visitor to Billboard tallies since DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jeff Townes) & the Fresh Prince (Smith) first arrived on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart dated Sept. 27, 1986, with "Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble."

Smith's mother Jada Pinkett Smith spent a week each on Heatseekers Albums and Top Independent Albums in 2006 as part of the band Wicked Wisdom. The act's self-titled debut set peaked at Nos. 44 and 45 on the lists, respectively.

(Unlike the male Smiths' pop/R&B tendencies, Wicked Wisdom's sound incorporates alternative, hard rock and grungy nu-metal).

'JOURNEY' TO NO. 1: As previously reported, "Glee: the Music, Journey to Regionals" debuts atop the Billboard 200, marking the Fox TV series' third No. 1 album. "Glee: the Music, the Power of Madonna (EP)" (May 8) and "Glee: the Music, Volume 3: Showstoppers" (June 5) previously debuted at No. 1.

As noted in yesterday's Chart Beat column highlighting the numerous chart achievements that the "Glee" cast has earned in its freshman year, when the two latter sets started at No. 1 four weeks apart, the "Glee" cast set the record for shortest span between first weeks at No. 1 with different albums in the 54-year history of the Billboard 200. With its latest leader, on the chart dated June 26, the ensemble rewrites its own mark with a new No. 1 just three weeks after its last effort began in the top spot.

On the Hot 100, the "Glee" cast debuts with five new tracks showcased on the series' June 8 first season finale. Since the club's first visit to the Hot 100 on June 6, 2009, it has totaled 64 chart appearances. The troupe now owns the seventh-highest sum of Hot 100 entries in the survey's 52-year history.

Here is an updated ranking of the acts with the most career Hot 100 charted titles:

108, Elvis Presley
91, James Brown
74, Ray Charles
73, Aretha Franklin
71, the Beatles
67, Elton John
64, "Glee" Cast
63, Stevie Wonder
60, Jay-Z
57, Lil Wayne
57, the Rolling Stones

'WORLD' MUSIC: From karate to soccer, multiple artists are getting their kicks on the Hot 100 this week.

Shakira scores her second-highest debut on the chart, as "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," the official song of the 2010 Fifa World Cup competition in South Africa, arrives at No. 43. The singer's "She Wolf" bowed at No. 34 last August on its way to a No. 11 peak.

"Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," featuring South African group Freshlyground, is one of two songs on the Hot 100 this week with ties to the 2010 World Cup. K'Naan's "Wavin' Flag" re-enters at No. 89, marking a new peak to-date for the song, which doubles as the promotional theme for Coca-Cola's 2010 World Cup advertising campaign.

Billboard senior chart manager Keith Caulfield notes that three songs on the Official UK Charts Co.'s singles chart surge due to World Cup fervor: "Shout" by Shout for England featuring Dizzee and James Corden (No. 1), "Wavin' Flag" (No. 3) and "3 Lions," first released in 1996, by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and the Lightning Seeds (No. 10).

CLASSIC MODERN ROCK REMODERNIZED:
A deluxe re-issue of the Cure's "Disintegration" debuts on the Billboard 200 at No. 92. The set, which charts separately from its original 1989 release, includes 32 bonus tracks in addition to the original album, which yielded the band's biggest Hot 100 hit, 1989's No. 2-peaking "Love Song."

In its original 55-week Billboard 200 run, "Disintegration" peaked at No. 12 in June 1989 and last appeared on the July 21, 1990, chart.

CHART BEAT BITS: Lady Antebellum's former five-week Country Songs No. 1 "Need You Now" debuts, in remixed form, at No. 45 on Dance/Club Play Songs. The song becomes the first Country Songs leader to cross over to the latter list since Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" reached No. 77 in 1981 on the then 100-position Dance/Club Play Songs survey ...

Dierks Bentley becomes the first current core country act to bow at No. 1 on the Top Bluegrass Albums chart, as "Up on the Ridge" begins at the summit. In addition to the title cut, which climbs 25-24 on Country Songs, the set includes an inventive cover of U2's "Pride (In the Name of Love)," featuring the Punch Brothers and Del McCoury ...

Enrique Iglesias notches his seventh top 40 hit on the Hot 100, as "I Like It," featuring Pitbull, bounds 55-32. The song matches the peak of Iglesias' second chart entry, "Rhythm Divine," in 2000. The singer has also reached the top 40 with his debut English-language smash "Bailamos" (No. 1, two weeks, 1999), "Be With You" (No. 1, three weeks, 2000), "Hero" (No. 3, 2001), "Escape" (No. 12, 2002) and "Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Song)" (No. 21, 2007) ...

As previewed in Ask Billboard last Friday (June 11), Hanson earns its highest rank on the Billboard 200 in more than six years, as "Shout It Out" arrives at No. 30. The brother trio enjoys its most impressive placement on the list since "Underneath" debuted and peaked at No. 25 in May 2004 ...

While the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers tip off tonight to decide the 2010 NBA title, the recently-crowned NHL Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks may be behind the greatest positional leap into the Rock Digital Songs chart's top 10, where the Fratellis' "Chelsea Dagger" continues a 45-19-7 flight. The song was played in celebration after home goals during the Blackhawks' successful march to their first Stanley Cup victory since 1961. The Fratellis reportedly chose the title of the song, which has also gained popularity from its usage in Amstel Beer commercials, as a wry ode to the similarly-monikered Britney Spears.
