Bad hair day? Aaron Paul takes it back to the 90s as he swaps his trademark quiff for boy band-inspired locks and a funky fedora

By Ryan Smith

Thanks to his role on the acclaimed TV series Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul is used to taking things to extremes - and that would apparently include bad hair days.

The Hollywood actor appeared to have grown his brown locks a little longer than his usual quiffed style - and become a fan of liberal hair gel use - when he stepped out at a New York screening of his new movie Hellion on Thursday.

As he posed for snapshots with the film's writer and director, Kat Candler, at the IFC Center, it was hard to miss his product-laden tresses poking from beneath his grey bucket hat.

While his hair harked back to the reign of nineties boy bands, an unshaven Paul kept the rest of his casual look relatively modern.

Sporting a denim button-down jacket over a scooped neck white t-shirt, the 34-year-old star completed his ensemble with black trousers and laced black boots.

And casual seemed to be the theme of the day, as Candler stepped out in a sheer polka dot black dress over faded and ripped blue jeans, complete with turn-ups.

Skipping jewellery altogether, the brunette indie favourite smiled gleefully at photographers as she posed in a pair of black suede flat shoes.

Hellion, which also stars Juliette Lewis, features Paul as an emotionally absent father struggling through a series of woes with his troubled son.

The Idaho native's screen efforts have been well received, with the New York Daily News deeming his performance 'quietly powerful'.

The film marks a welcome return to the screen for Paul, whose drug-themed show Breaking Bad ended in 2013, following a successful five-year run.

Paul and his former co-star Bryan Cranston have hinted that they may be interested in guest spots on the show's spinoff prequel Better Call Saul, which is set to make its debut in November.

Paul's big screen credits include Smashed, The Last House on the Left and the 3D action hit Need for Speed.

The photo of him without a hat would lead me to suggest that perhaps he's having some 'restorative' work done on his hairline, hence the hat and Ramsay-fringe.
