There can be little more awkward than bumping into a former flame.

So Brandi Glanville and her ex Eddie Cibrian must be breathing a sign of relief after their near miss on Friday.

Eddie and new wife LeAnn Rimes narrowly avoided his onetime spouse as they spent the afternoon blocks away from one another.

LeAnn, 31, and her 40-year-old husband appeared blissfully unaware that Brandi - mother to Eddie's two children - was nearby as they took a stroll in Santa Monica on Friday.

It would certainly have been an awkward encounter.

The lovebirds held hands and gazed into one anothers eyes enjoying the sunny weather as they walked in summery ensembles.

LeAnn looked cheerful in an all-denim outfit of super short Daisy Dukes and matching denim shirt unbuttoned to reveal oodles of her décolletage.

She paired it with tan suede booties with leather straps which elongated her tanned and toned legs.

The country star accessorized with some green beads, donned aviator shades and left her blonde hair loose and with a slight wave.

Eddie on the other hand dressed in typical Cali attire with beige cargo shorts and flip-flops.

Showing his excitement about the Brazilian World Cup efforts, he wore a green T-shirt bearing the caption 'Brasil'.

Meanwhile, Real Housewives star Brandi cut a more sullen figure walking alone and keeping her head down as she headed into a Del Taco restaurant.

She was clad in a grey jersey tank dress and flip-flops but in contrast to her mood sported a baseball cap with the word 'LOVE'.

The skinny star accessorized with a large pair of sunglasses and a large mauve handbag.

It would be understandable that Brandi - who is mother to Eddie's two children Mason and Jake - is dreading the couple's reality TV debut where they are due to talk about their affair that led to the dissolution of two marriages.

Look of love: The couple gazed at each other clasping hands. They have had a difficult relationship with Brandi since news of their affair broke in 2009. Brandi is mother to Eddie's two sons Mason and Jake.

The couple get to tell their side of the story on the aptly titled LeAnn and Eddie.

In the first trailer released for the show, LeAnn fesses up: 'Our relationship didn't quite start off like we were planned.'

'We were both married to other people when we fell in love. Was it the best way to start off? Of course not, but it happened.

Meanwhile...Brandi, 41, ran errands and grabbed a bite to eat in Santa Monica. The reality star has had very public Twitter arguments with country singer LeAnn

'Now, who we really are is a couple who are in love. We are all trying to navigate this blended family which is highly publicised.

'Eddie followed up: 'Look everyone thinks they really know how it is with us. We have been through a lot both privately and publicly, it is still very difficult but I think it's made us stronger.'

Already promising tears, fights but also a lot of love, the programme may not be favourite of Eddie's former wife, with both the actor and LeAnn happy to discuss her in front of the cameras.

When asked about Brandi, Eddie, turning, up his lip, says: 'I have no idea what my ex-wife is up to now.'

The actor also defends himself against claims he just lives off his Grammy-winning wife.

He says in the trailer: 'Contrary to what some people think [pretends to cough] my ex-wife, I do actually work.

'Being a working actor and being a spouse battle each other all the time.'

Fans have just over a month to wait with LeAnn and Eddie premiering on July 17 on VH1.
