Not on their Homeland! Claire Danes and Rupert Friend film scenes for TV drama’s fourth series in South Africa

By Hanna Flint

The fourth season of Homeland may be largely set in the Middle East, but it seems South Africa is playing its part to bring the story to life.

Stars Claire Danes and Rupert Friend were spotted filming scenes for the hit show in an airport lounge mocked up to look like a Pakistani one.

The location seems to fit with the confirmed storyline of the upcoming series which sees Carrie Mathison 'assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror.'

Showtime's president David Nevins said at a TCA panel in January: 'Homeland is a show that is deeply about a field operative (Carrie), and we haven’t seen her much in the field.

‘In season four you will likely see her on the ground in a foreign capital doing her job.'

It seems Rupert’s character will also be playing a recurring role in the show having joined the cast in season two as Peter Quinn, an elite CIA black-ops agent.

No doubt with Nicholas Brody’s death, Carrie may have a new unsuitable love interest on the horizon.

New members to the cast include Raza Jaffrey (Smash) and Michael O’Keefe (King & Maxwell, Roseanne), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jaffrey is believed to be playing Aasar Khan, a decorated lieutenant-colonel in the Pakistan intelligence service while O’Keefe is to play deputy station chief John Redmond, stationed in the CIA’s Pakistan outpost and who will get into arguments a lot with Carrie.

Also joining the Homeland cast is Suraj Sharma, star of Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi.

The 21-year-old, who was born and raised in New Delhi, India, has recently finished filming Million Dollar Arm, with Jon Hamm.

In Homeland, Suraj will get a recurring role as a Pakistani medical student who meets Claire's Carrie Mathison.

Corey Stoll as the CIA chief of station in Pakistan and Laila Robins as the U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, will also be making themselves at Homeland.

Love interest? With no Brody around maybe Carrie will find affection elsewhere

I would not be hugely shocked if Brody turns up towards the end of the season in a cliffhanger twist...I know, the hanging, they say he is definitely dead, etc, but people have survived hangings and they didn't show him being buried (always a giveaway that a character might not be dead). The show revolves around Carrie/Brody, so I can see them bringing him back just when she starts to move on. I could be totally wrong, but I just don't see it continuing on past this season without him. I do love Rupert as Quinn though.

So glad Keira Knightley got away from him. He made her afraid of her shadow.
