Rebel with a cause! Wilson alerts fans to a weight loss product scam that's 'unlawfully' using her name and image
Rebel Wilson has alerted her fans to a scam using her image to promote a weight loss product.
The 28-year-old actress and comedian took to Twitter on Wednesday to denounce the use of her likeness in association with an unnamed weight loss product.
She wrote: 'If you see a post about me relating to some "diet" product: this is a SCAM. Police alerted.'
Alert! On Wednesday Rebel Wilson has denounced a diet product bearing her name and likeness, calling it a scam on Twitter
Not so funny: Normally quite a joker, the Australian actress seemed quite bothered by the scam
The normally laid back joker seemed quite bothered, following up with another Tweet that read:
'They are unlawfully using my name and image. PLEASE IGNORE.'
She urged her Australian friends and followers to 'especially' be on the lookout, she was clearly concerned that the phoney promotion is being circulated on her home soil.
Rebel is not the first celebrity to fall foul to a bogus association with a slimming product.
In 2014 Jennifer Love Hewitt sued weight loss supplement Slim Spray who pictured the slender starlet in an advert where she is seen proudly holding a bottle of 'slimming spray'.
Meanwhile presenter Fifi Box had a similar experience when a Panama-based weight loss company illegally used photographs of her and her young daughter Trixie, almost one, to promote diet pills on Facebook.
Career move: Rebel, who once took part in a Jenny Craig program to lose 20kgs, has said she opts to keep her size as it nets her Hollywood roles. She's seen here in her own TV series, Super Fun Night
It looks like the full-figured Bridesmaids star is not the only celebrity to be made the centrepiece for a bogus social media scam.
Despite signing up to the Jenny Craig weight loss program in 2012 when she lost 10kg in ten weeks, the actress decided to forgoe her commitment to the dieting plan.
'Because of my filming commitments in America you have to sign contracts where you can’t change your physical appearance.'
At the time the stand-up comedian said to Extra's Renee Bargh: 'I don’t really care what I look like that much, and I think women out there should just be happy with the way they look.'
