TRIBUTE TO YOUNG FOOTBALLER: A young footballer who fought a brave battle against cancer will be remembered at a school tournament created in his honour.Football-mad Cole Breadner, 10, from Prenton died in February, just 16 weeks after he was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of the disease.

KNOWSLEY FAILURES: A damning report into children's services in Knowsley said "widespread failures" were putting vulnerable children at risk. Education watchdog Ofsted today branded Knowsley Council "inadequate" following an inspection of its services for children in need of help and protection, looked after children and those leaving care.

will be presented with an honorary degree today for his outstanding contribution to sport. The Northern Irishman, who guided the Reds to second place in the Premier League in his second season in charge at Anfield, will be awarded an honorary degree by the University of Ulster this afternoon.Rodgers, who will be made a Doctor of Science (DSc), is among 13 "inspirational" people set to receive awards at the ceremony in Coleraine, County Londonderry.They include record-breaking jump jockey AP McCoy and Irish rugby player Tommy Bowe.
