It was a matter of minutes before the internet was overloaded with viral images mocking Brazil for their 7-1 defeat to Germany.

Christ the Redeemer, the iconic statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, is normally seen as an image of hope - but the famous landmark was quickly photo-shopped at the expense of the defeated host nation, following their semi-final humiliation.

Today Twitter revealed that Brazil's humiliating loss in the semi-final was the most talked about individual sports game ever on the social network with users sending 5.6 million tweets during the game.

It was hysterically funny and surreal, the Brazilians really built themselves up as the unbeatable Icons of Football, the Germans were running rings around them. I hope the Dutch beat the Argies tonight, lets have a European final. Yes the English team was rubbish but this was on another level.

Some really good digital imaging shown. By far the best one though is the 'chomping' German flag. Brilliant.

Why is it that every article today talks about "social media". Why do we need the perspective from the kind fools and layabouts that invest to much of their time of website such as the Twitter. In addition I find it highly offensive that some foolish youngster has replaced our lord and saviour sculpture Christ the Redeemer with some woman. Shame on all!
