Following in mom's footsteps! Christy Brinkley's 16-year-old daughter Sailor on juggling school and modeling as she poses in Teen Vogue
Christy Brinkley’s 16-year-old daughter Sailor has opened up about chasing her modeling career while still attending school in the newest issue of Teen Vogue.
She told the magazine of her schedule: ‘A typical week is Monday, school. Tuesday, school. Wednesday, school. Thursday, school. Friday, school. Then on the weekends, maybe I'll go to a job if I have one. I live a pretty basic life. Which is nice—I like it.’
Posing in some of fall’s preeminent back-to-school outfits, Sailor waxes poetic about her own taste in style –a decidedly all-American feel which she gleans from her 60-year-old supermodel mom.
Just like mom: Sailor Brinkley Cook, 16, poses for a back-to-school fashion shoot in the August issue of Teen Vogue
‘I love skinny jeans with oversize sweaters’ she said of the uniform she wears when she is not wearing her school-regulated one – which requires her to don crisp khakis and a button-down shirt.
For the best jeans, though, Sailor doesn’t hit a store but rather pays her mother’s closet a visit.
Stealing from her closet: Sailor, pictured with mom Christy Brinkley last year, says that taking old jeans from her mom's wardrobe is one of her favorite ways to get dressed
‘She gives me all her jeans when she gets tired of them. I chop off the bottoms if they're flared or turn them into cut off shorts—a bunch of DIY stuff. No bedazzling, though,’ she said of her 60-year-old supermodel mother.
On newsstands: Teen Vogue's August issue hits stands on July 15
Sailor, currently signed to world-class modelling agency IMG, is no stranger to the world of fashion – having landed an ad campaign for Claire’s last year as well as an internship with the industry’s go-to beauty website Into The Gloss.
Modeling, as Sailor told Into The Gloss earlier this year, only became an interest to her through her evolving passion for photography.
She explained: ‘I had low self-confidence when I was younger—modeling was never in the cards for me. And I didn’t really want to, either, because I thought as soon as you were a model you had to be stick skinny.
‘Just recently, the door sort of opened up for more healthy models, ones who are like Jennifer Lawrence—she got huge because she was pro-health. It was then I started thinking, ‘Hey I can do this. I don’t care if I’m not a size zero, I can do this.’
Teen Vogue’s August issue hits newsstands on July 15.
