love is everything
I've had this kitchen chalkboard for more than ten years, with this same thing written on it. Even though there were times I had stopped believing, I couldn't erase it.
[This is by far my most popular photo on flickr. I changed the upload date from 12/7/2005 tp 11/25/2008 so that it would appear as my first photo. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.]

We used a different equation:
if LoVe = 2, then FaMiL(y) = 5.
Here is another one:
BOY + GIRL = BABY.
(You make it true just by uniquely assigning digits to the letters.)

auora, you'd have to ask my ex who wrote this on the chalkboard years ago.
I don't think it was intended to show the dynamics, but rather the extremes. What life is with love and what life is without it. But that's just my guess! We never talked about it.

Sharing the photo was almost like carelessly flinging out a message in a bottle, into the void, unaware of its true meaning. And then immediately receiving a deep, echoing, days-long "Duh" from The Universe. I'm ok with that. It's not a "Duh" of Contempt. It's a message of communion, reassurance and harmony, a declaration.
It's a "Duh" of Devotion.

In spite of my light-hearted earlier comments, this photo and your story has really stuck with me, as it has so many levels of meaning, including:
* Love should be a constant in life.
* Even during times of trouble, you should still believe in Love.
* It is good to remind yourself often of the importance of Love.
For me, I like to be reminded of the power of Love in church. But I also believe God can choose other venues too, such as simple photographs of simple equations...
